You abstain and still complain about the results? How many others decide that they don't want to participate and cost someone an election?
Yep. I live in one of the reddest states. It's difficult to think my vote will count when it's always red. Now I know different. I had no idea that few voted. That's a MAJOR portion of the population.

For the first time ever, I feel my vote counts. Whether my state is red or not. Learned my lesson the hard way last election.

They could add 'Abstain' to the list- if people fill that dot, it will show the truth. Or, the machines could be programmed to count a vote for both to be a separate number. The paper ballots wouldn't need to be changed. They may already count votes for both as invalid ballots- it would be interesting to see the results as Candidate A- 14 votes, Candidate B- 13 after more than 125 million votes have been cast because of the abstainers.

I really would like to see candidates who understand what we need. I heard a Biden ad this morning where he said "If and when people can get back to work..." IF????????????????? WTF is he on???????

If they tell us that we can never get back to work, the conspiracy theorists will have been proved correct.
His brain doesn't work fast enough to process his thoughts before he says them. At least some of the time anyway.

Doesn't he have legit speaking issues? Not a stutter or anything, but my wife mentioned something, but it's hard to find something online that isn't making fun of him.

In Sweden you can vote with using "blank" paper that is counted as an invalid vote and it will not affect the distribution of elected candidates. However, the number of "blank" votes is tallied and published.

Or some thing.
Yeah that makes more sense than "mother" :)

I like the abstain thing for counting, altho who's going to bother unless they can mail it in?

Wouldn't someone who lost their job permanently (think restaurants) possibly be an if? What are you on?

That's what Pence calls his wife. He's quite famous for being a sexual prude....supposedly mother doesn't approve of a lot of things :).
That's more than a little creepy, if you ask me, while he at the same time gives a deep throated support of Trump's Porn Star Presidency.

No kidding. Weirdest fucking white house imaginable. Republicans got all upset that ol' Bill Clinton got a knobber from an intern....but drumphy can be a total pig and that's fine. They call it "winning"

My wife has, should say 'had', an aunt & uncle in North Carolina who called themselves 'mother & father' in front of their children and ... well everybody.

Both me and my wife looked at each other the first time it occurred, as if to say, WTF is that all about?

Creepy indeed
.

Joking around I told her she should call me 'father' too. She replied, I will leave you yesterday. :D

"If and when" is just a figure of speech. I wouldn't read too much into it.

OK, would these people possibly have job skills that could land them another job, or are they truly a bunch of one trick ponies? That would be pathetic if they can't find something else- people are needed all over, just not as baristas, wait staff and other 'non-competitive' positions. People need to realize that the real world involves competing for jobs and ideally, it would be somewhat based on performance, rather than quotas. Unless customer satisfaction, manufacturing quality and safety aren't real goals, that is.

What am I on? Nothing- I haven't worked in a restaurant since I was 16, when I quit and started looking for jobs that paid better.

People who are 'stuck' in jobs that have no future and now, don't even have much of a 'present', are often stuck because of the decisions they made earlier in their lives. Some have these decisions forced on them but anyone who can learn has the potential to do better, if they choose to. If they don't choose to, they shouldn't expect the rest of the country or World to support them. Those jobs are necessary, though. We can't expect everyone to make $150K or more. The problem in the US is that, by getting higher wages than most of the World, the cost of living has risen past the point of affordability.

I was watching some videos about traveling in Poland and, while the pay is far less for many jobs, the cost of living is much lower than it is here. Restaurant food looked great, everyone enjoyed it and it was cheap- a main course was less than most appetizers in the US. Hell, full meals didn't cost much more than a Quarter Pounder with cheese, for just the sandwich. A full QP w cheese meal is over $8.

  • Cost of living in Poland is cheaper than in 60% of countries in Eastern Europe (9 out of 15)
  • Cost of living in Poland is cheaper than in 67% of countries in the World (52 out of 78)

I suppose it's better than saying 'YOUR mother' when referring to her as he's telling the kids about something she had done. My cousin asked 'Did you see what YOUR cousin did?" when someone who had the same last name as her maiden name did something in California, where she was born and raised. It was her humorous way of distancing herself from him.

Older generations of husbands & wives sometimes called each other 'mother' and 'father'. Terms of endearment- better than many options.

Don't forget the ones who sued Clinton and won. Then, there's Hillary's claim that it was part of a vast, right-wing conspiracy. I wonder what she has to say about Slick Willie being on Epstein's passenger list so many times and photos of him being massaged.

The blank paper a valid statement, IMO. It should be a message to the candidates. Here, I don't know if they care enough to even think about the possibility of voters being dissatisfied with the performance of Congress, which hasn't reached 30% in nine years. It hit a lot of 13% at one point.

The members of the US House of Representatives and Senate make $174,000 per year, plus expenses if they aren't on special committees or some role of leadership. We have 102 senators and 454 Representatives, so at a minimum, taxpayers have to pay $96,744,000, for a mob that has a terrible approval rating. Yay.

I don't understand your position, to be honest. The Swedish (grammar, you get the point) system clear as it can be in that protest votes are recorded and published. The rest is "it is what it is" as Trump said.

I like the idea that a blank paper can be seen as an invalid vote, but it's still counted. Abstaining is seen as 'wasted votes', but they aren't really counted, as far as I know. If they are, the number isn't shown when the votes have been tallied, only the votes cast for actual candidates.

I would like for the voters to send a performance review to Congress, as we see at work. If they have bad reviews, they could be replaced. We can only hope.

Maybe they could add 'None of the above'. That would have to wait until the next election, though- they have already counted a large number of votes for this one.

'It is what it is' should be stricken from the language- I see it as a weak way to avoid further discussion or though on the matter.

I still can't parse what you are writing, to be honest, it's sort of gibberish.

Please look at my earlier post!

I did- you wrote that you didn't understand. If it's not clear that I like the idea of counting protest votes, I can't help.
