Biden vs. Trump Debates

Another wasted hour and a half, after just watching the Pence/Harris debate.

Both VP candidate's refused to answer the moderators questions straight-forwardly 80% of the time it seemed.

One lied outright (Pence) repeatedly several times and the other (Harris) just parroted the company (Democrats) line.

I will give her credit though for occasionally being more specific on policy issues, on the COVID-19 virus & how they will handle it in the future, taxes, climate science, etc. while Pence continued to offer 'thoughts & prayers for the American people' all night and little else of substance, especially on the issue of climate change and waffling on the merits on whether it's an existential threat to us and the world. Business first & foremost and we'll worry about people later.

I still think the moderator should have a 'mute' button when they refuse to answer his/her question or just continue to talk nonsense after their allotted time or talk over the other person to score brownie points with their base. It's getting old ... like both presidential candidates.

I'm in and so is my grandson, if he can control the air horn; he's a helpful little tyke.

Another reason why I'm voting in person. My wife is furious with me because I tick all the boxes for catching the virus (age, health issues, etc.) but I believe this election is the most important one I'll ever vote in since 1974, when I cast my first ballot.

I have already seen that boxes of ballots were found in a ditch, someone had 300 ballots in their car in Minnesota (could have been a BS video, but...) and in the Milwaukee area, problems with ballots occur every damn time during an election.

I'm voting in person- I'm far too much of a control freak to let an eight buck an hour temporary worker handle ballots in a city that has a terrible public school system, terrible dropout/chronic truancy rate and a history of election problems.

The importance of this election is a big reason for wanting to vote in person- ballots have never been accepted so early, in such large numbers, with a compromised USPS. I understand how COVID makes in-person voting dangerous for some and if people CAN'T go in person, absentee balloting is a great solution but if people CAN go, and with so many not working, that shouldn't be a problem, I think they should. Cities have unused large venues- use them and maintain space between people!

Above all, be informed and don't vote on emotion, regardless of which side of the aisle.

I get it, it's frustrating, without question. But, it's no different than press conferences and interviews. The public insist that they want honest answers - the "truth" - from politicians. I don't think that's quite correct though - most of the electorate wants to be lied to - "If that candidate doesn't promise me a unicorn, or that I can have my cake and eat it, I'm not going to vote for him/her/them".

I should have posted here about the Cone of Silence. Yesterday, I put it on the F'in Trump thread.

For those of you too young to remember Get Smart, it was a TV show in the late 60s, that made fun of secret agent, James Bond-type movies. Agent Maxwell Smart (Don Adams) was inept and did most everything wrong, but usually ended up looking great. The bad guys were always dumber than he was.

Whenever Smart or the The Chief talked about something so secret, he insisted on using the Cone of Silence. It was so effective that no one, including the two morons under the Cone, could hear anything at all. It was a great running joke that never stopped being funny. But now during the 2020 Presidential debates, it seems to be a reminder of gentler times that have long passed.

I'm sure it'll be higher this year, but the reason we get stuck with such garbage choices is that 45% of the population does vote because a lot of people think their vote doesn't matter. Especially when we are given such bad choices.

The thing you're forgetting is that the hard core Trump supporters think what he's saying IS the truth and that anything that contradicts him are lies.

It's not just Trump supporters though, it's the mindset of people like them. Some people are just blind followers and will do whatever their group tells them. Examples are flat-earthers, antivaxxers, qanon, etc.

They don't care about the truth, they just want to be told what they agree with, as you said. Some of them do care about the truth, but it MUST come from the bubble of trust otherwise it can't be true. There is a difference between the two, but both are dangerous.

I'm not sure there would be much difference in the reaction from hearing the sound from an air horn at close proximity and a shock collar. The horns I would use are freaking loud from 100'- in-ear, they would probably cause someone to pass out immediately.

This is true of both sides- many can't even imagine the possibility that their candidate has flaws or that the accusations might be true, even if they watch unedited video with a sound clip.

When nothing changes, many people see that their vote will change nothing. Given that many don't like either candidate, its it wrong for them to ask "Why bother, if it won't make a difference?"?

Think of it as being a conscientious objector during an election. Can't stomach voting for either so, failing a viable third party candidate, who should they pick?

I'll be doing in-person voting, health issues or not. I think this election is that important.

I do worry though about the missuses enthusiasm for me doing so, considering I have a 750K life insurance policy.
