My wife has, should say 'had', an aunt & uncle in North Carolina who called themselves 'mother & father' in front of their children and ... well everybody.

Both me and my wife looked at each other the first time it occurred, as if to say, WTF is that all about?

Creepy indeed
.

Joking around I told her she should call me 'father' too. She replied, I will leave you yesterday. :D
hell I call my wife Grandma and she calls me Grandpa, proud of it !!

"If and when" is just a figure of speech. I wouldn't read too much into it.

I knew it was something like a stutter. Thanks for the link.

I don't think folks that can speak without issue (other than leaving the brain out) understand how difficult it is when someone has speech issues. He probably has to concentrate very hard when he speaks, nothing to do with mental defect. At least not yet. He is still approaching 80.

In a joking manner I'm assuming ... or maybe not. Your and your wife's call.

If I ever call my wife 'grandma' in a serious manner, I better have my running shoes on. :D I'm speaking from experience.

Though my grandson would get a kick out of it. Torturing Nonno ... me ... is a national past-time around these here parts.

And I reciprocate. Laughter is a must-have in our family. If you can't laugh at yourself, your not allowed to join in; strangers included. My kids friends have learned the hard way. Now I can't get rid of them. My wife feeding them all the time doesn't help. Vulture's! :D

Using the wrong word is not a stutter, or a stammer. 'If' and 'when' have very different meanings.

Does anyone find it odd that the subject of 'corruption' hasn't come up in the debates yet?

not really for there is plenty to go around on both sides.
No argument out of me Mikado463.

Some current Democratic senators & congress men/woman have sinned too, along with some other Republican senators & congress men/women and past administrations. That’s another chapter, book and verse in itself.

My point is the rise of ‘corruption ‘ in this administration is waaay beyond the norm of previous administrations by a country mile. We’ve become numb to it, hence why I posted this video. And it’s not just because we have more tools to tackle the problem (tracking/journalism).

The example is set at the top with Trump’s own personal corruption, now and in the past, but also the blatant nepotism with his children & family. Conducting national & international business outside of the White House at his country clubs where it benefits’ only him and his family (Ukraine, China, US corporations, etc.) and his political re-election. They have consistently thumbed their noses at us and make no pretense that this will help the American public in a backhanded sort-a way, domestically and internationally.

If you’re OK with it … well what can I say?

Some people will draw a moral equivalence to soothe their conscience, making the excuse that they ‘all do it’ ... I don’t and never will, be they Republicans or Democrats. We need to stop this $hit!

Lengthily prison terms are a good start for both parties, for felonies committed during their tenure or committed in the past.

The foxes are in charge of the hen house and they need to be stopped.

A few words came to mind while I watched the debate … if that’s what you want to call it … ‘a hot mess’, ‘food fight”, ‘undignified’ and ‘shameful’ and a few other choice words.

No moderator, short of god himself or brandishing a pistol, could’ve stopped that fiasco last night. What a waste of time for my country and myself.

I’ve been mulling over changing my Independent registration the last 4 years … I have voted for both parties at one time or another; the corruption, influence peddling & graft in both parties are pet peeves … but that train has now left the station, possibly for good. As soon as it’s safe to do so I’m going to change my party registration.

I’ve always thought and knew … I was a tele-com sub-contractor at his casinos … how personally & financially bankrupt Trump was but I thought the presidency would change him, like it has every other president. Campaigning and the reality of the office are two different animals. He talked about fixing our broken infrastructure, an issue close to my heart, winding down these ‘endless wars’ with no end game or goals. I wanted him to succeed, personality issues aside.

Instead his megalomania has only gotten worse, the nepotism and the inevitable profiteering completely disgusts me, he’s catered to our enemies whims (Putin, Erdoğan, etc.) and abandoned our allies (NATO, Kurds, etc.) and the vast majority of Republicans not only enabled him, they cheered him on.

Meanwhile COVID-19 rages on and he’s worried about how it impacts him and not a scintilla of empathy for anyone but himself. Race relations have reached an all-time low and he stokes the fires. An inefficient broken health care system, for which he or the Republicans have no answer to or a plan to fix or address it … ENOUGH!
fixing infrastructure is going to require a congress that is willing to work with the president

Catered to our enemies? Like killing Soleimani actually getting tough with china backing n korea down
getting rid of that horrible iran deal. Sorry but the whole catering to putin thing is a joke at this point.
He's actually made an effort to keep us out of wars while trying to end them. Theres a reason he fired guys like mattis and bolden. Those guys are military industrial complex type guys that want to keep the wars going.
Btw isis was crushed in fairly short order. That's hardly the actions of someone catering to our enemies.

Requiring our allies to pay more into nato isn't abandoning them, it's actually in our nations best interest.
The kurds in that area are not the same kurds that we helped in Iraq. They're not the good guys. Trump seemingly made the right move in that instance. also he's also made some pretty good moves recently in regards to the middle east.

As to covid, it's real its out there, but it has been over hyped by a media and political party that has used it to frighten and control people while helping a certain candidate. If you're goin to blame anyone for covid, you should be blaming china.

sure djt has made many mistakes, his goofy manerisms etc drive me crazy at times, but he has gotten a lot of good things done and he's not cowing to a group of people that hate the country.
We should never choose style over substance.

That "Both sides does it" disguise how awful one side is. It's sort of like dismissing Trump's lying since Obama lied to.
I agree if the person saying "But both sides do it" is firmly attached to one of them but from a more neutral standpoint (not far Left or Right), it might be more valid because neither might be seen as 'adequate'. Something a lot of people have forgotten- it's OK and in fact, our duty, to raise awareness and ask questions when 'their party' or 'their guy' (figuratively speaking) is bad. People on both sides of the aisle are blind to the wrongs committed by their political side and blame is going in only one direction, for them. Personal attacks in social media disagreements don't help to find solutions and many people are ending friendships, or worse. It seems that nobody wants to find some middle ground.

It really sucks to think about candidates and political parties as just 'adequate'. This country has lost all sense of direction and purpose. Record numbers of people want to leave-

And yet, more than a million come to the US every year. Probably not this year, but in other years.

Sure, my point here is that one side goes so far out that "But both sides do it" becomes a tool to hide their extremeness with respect to the assumed neutral point: It quite simply does not exist.

I would suggest anyone that reads the news or watches the news channels take a look at how factual they are. Sure, most people won't believe this site even though it's run independently, but convincing someone of the actual truth that want's to believe something different isn't very easy.

I don't mean neutral in the sense that they don't see either as bad, I mean where someone sees that both sides are bad and are failing to do what the country needs. This country has serious problems and we also have members of the government who act as if they're the anointed ones, sent to save us all while in their own districts, living conditions for many exist that would put them squarely in 3rd World class. California has areas where homeless camps are not only becoming very large, they're intruding on private property and creating a health risk through the campers leaving syringes strewn on streets, residential lawns and those people are also engaged in violent crimes. They refuse to leave and the cities are doing little or nothing about it. I recently saw that fires in their tents are becoming common and if they spread to homes, I fail to see how this could be called acceptable. You may have seen news coverage of the wildfires in the Western US- some of those were set by homeless people and the effects are terrible. Not only have homes & businesses burned, people have died, millions of acres of forested areas have burned and the smoke has been seen as far East as New York. The pollution created is terrible for the air and the loss of plants on the ground will once again cause/allow landslides when the rain starts.

Cities are under attack by people who can't seem to find a constructive way to deal with their anger, some think it's OK to burn homes, cities and government buildings and by looting, they say it's OK, because that's reparation for slavery. No, it's stealing, period. Slavery was terrible- anyone who denies that is an idiot (and worse), but they don't get to unilaterally decide who to steal from, or whether they should do it at all. The crime wave plaguing the areas around major cities, while not in every city, comes with a huge cost, not the least of which is the attitude of the victims toward those who are engaged in those crimes. Local governments are doing little to stop this, in some places. They're like the Ostrich with its head in the sand, waiting for it to pass. The murder rate in some cities passed last year's total, months ago. In Milwaukee, I think 176 have been murdered so far, compared with 95 for all of 2019.

Both sides demonize the other, but both sides are guilty. Hard to see the good in either.

The media are highly complicit in the direction of the country- they report, but the truth is often absent. It's not just national media, either. In one news report from a local channel, I saw a half dozen glaring errors that they haven't corrected- most of them were created by the reporters, but one that really needs to be addressed came from the Milwaukee District Attorney and that's inexcusable, especially when it involves someone who was killed by an officer who had already killed two others in the line of duty. He's on paid suspension and the DA isn't pressing charges, which is the reason for the protests and damage occurring in that area.

On the state government level, the Wisconsin legislature hasn't met for over 175 days.

Millions of acres were set afire by lightning and PG&E perhaps, homeless not so much. Sounds like a Faux news story I read about.....what's your source? Sounds as good as our raker-in-chief blaming California for the mismanagement of the millions of acres of federal land that also burns....
