Well, concerning the COVID issue, do you think Trump supporters want to hear the truth? You can pick amongst many issues and there will be a sizeable chunk - maybe not most - of the electorate who will want to be told what they want to hear.
Agreed, that's why I felt no Schadenfreude for Steven Miller, when I read he caught the virus. Couldn't happen to a better guy.

I'm not sure there would be much difference in the reaction from hearing the sound from an air horn at close proximity and a shock collar. The horns I would use are freaking loud from 100'- in-ear, they would probably cause someone to pass out immediately.
Let us pray!

When nothing changes, many people see that their vote will change nothing. Given that many don't like either candidate, its it wrong for them to ask "Why bother, if it won't make a difference?"?

Think of it as being a conscientious objector during an election. Can't stomach voting for either so, failing a viable third party candidate, who should they pick?
That was me last election. I'd love it if the population went out and voted 3rd party. If those 45% voted together for a third party, we could be done with both candidates. Won't happen though.

Especially when sh!t like having one ballet box per county in TEXAS is a thing. Thanks Abbott. Granted, tx makes it difficult to get mail in ballots and Abbott did extend the early vote two weeks before election day so that's at least good.

I never thought I'd vote AGAINST someone, but that's what'll be happening for me in this election. I usually abstain, but not this time.

It's much worse than that. Only 55% of the eligable voting population actually votes. I'm sure it'll be higher this year, but the reason we get stuck with such garbage choices is that 45% of the population does vote because a lot of people think their vote doesn't matter. Especially when we are given such bad choices.

If more of that 45% that doesn't vote actually did show up to vote, it could have a dramatic impact on elections. This is why there is such intense disagreement about voter turnout or voter turnout suppression.

One side – the GOP – is convinced it cannot win elections when voter turnout is large. This explains their efforts at narrowing the time frame for voting, blocking mail-in ballots, creating barriers to wider voter registration, and purging voter registration lists. They claim that they are guarding against voter fraud, but they are really trying to keep voter turnout low. In this matter, Trump is no different than all republicans that came before him.

That was jaw-dropping when I read about Abbot only allowing 1 drop-off ballot box per county in Texas, especially considering how HUGE Texas is.

That takes some real chutzpah and so Republican like.

One of the features of presidential elections that I find so bizarre, is that the state legislatures have so much control. How is that not license for placing a thumb on the election scale?

Well, that's the downside of the states wanting to run things their way and have the feds out of it. Some things for sure should be federal, some should be state level. Just depends on what it is. Hell, some things are done on a per county basis, at least in TX. That's why some counties still outlaw beer/liquor sales. Some it goes even further down to a city level.

The granularity is irritating and hard to keep track of.

Voting should be standardized across the US.

I saw a comparison with TX lowest populated country vs the highest. Low was something like 167 people. High was 4.5 MILLION.

It could still be run at the state level, if each had an independent electoral commission running the circus. It looks so strange to me, because this is what we have here:
It is an agency that reports to parliament, rather than the government. Each province has it's own version for provincial elections, as well.

I feel like this should apply to politics too. Maybe not the start age though.

You abstain and still complain about the results? How many others decide that they don't want to participate and cost someone an election?

I think 35 is old enough to start, although I see 35 year old hipsters with man-buns & little pony tails, dressed like nerd lumberjacks and with their pants hanging down like some kind of gangsta rapper. Not that they couldn't be intelligent or qualified, but then, they start talking and remove any shred of doubt.

Term limits is something we should all agree on.

I don't think there is an excuse not to vote, to be honest. If you don't like any of the candidates or parties, spoil your ballot. I've done that before - instead of putting an X beside a candidate's name, I drew lines through every name on the ballot. I just wish they tabulated deliberately spoiled ballots, so they would know how pi$$ed off we are at all of them.

6 (mail-in) or a half-a-dozen (on site voting); as long as I'm counted in.

I'm still planning to go to my local polling station to play it safe ... even if it isn't. :D

I'm writing a book, Tempting Fate. :p

They could add 'Abstain' to the list- if people fill that dot, it will show the truth. Or, the machines could be programmed to count a vote for both to be a separate number. The paper ballots wouldn't need to be changed. They may already count votes for both as invalid ballots- it would be interesting to see the results as Candidate A- 14 votes, Candidate B- 13 after more than 125 million votes have been cast because of the abstainers.

I really would like to see candidates who understand what we need. I heard a Biden ad this morning where he said "If and when people can get back to work..." IF????????????????? WTF is he on???????

If they tell us that we can never get back to work, the conspiracy theorists will have been proved correct.
