Audyssey just for speaker distances/delay?

I think Audyssey probably had it right and you just need to turn "sub level adjust" off. If it was +4 and Audyssey had trim set at -7 then you were running with an 11 dB bump! Now, by resetting your trim level to 0 and turning the sub itself up a couple of notches then you're still looking at least a +9 dB bump over what Audyssey set. That's pretty extreme.
Ok perfect feedback. So I should lower it to -7 again and rely on the 2 notches on the sub that I did? Man I love getting good advice.

Hey guys I noticed something in the settings, must of been leftover from what I did when I ran Audyssey wrong. The subwoofer adjust was on and on +4. That was giving me insane bass. From what I understand that is not really a feature that should be turned on much less be set at +4.
I turned it off and turned the sub itself up 2 notches. I also turned what Audyssey did with the sub from -7 to 0 because I figure that threw off Audyssey when I ran it. What do you think?
If you had the subwoofer adjust On and +4 before Audyssey, it likely ignores it during calibration process anyway. You can just now turn that off.

I'd leave the subwoofer trim as Audyssey set it, since it balances it with reference volume. Keep DEQ on, since it compensates for our lessened perception of bass as the volume decreases. DEQ adds about 2.2dB per -5 volume from 0 (reference). Most people listen around -10, which would result in a 4.4dB bump by DEQ...this also matches the general recommendation of increasing subwoofer +3 to +5 from people who manually bump the bass after calibration (and not use DEQ).

Great info again! Thank you. I have it at -3 now but with the bump up from the sub 2 notches. It's giving me a reason to do Audyssey over. Now that I have a real tripod.

From prior experience, that subwoofer adjustment is a great way to override Audyssey's level settings in situation specific instances. Easy on, easy off; especially with the phone app.
I have always felt Audyssey sets the subs a little hot, especially as a music first kind of guy. After running Audyssey, I tend to turn the Subs down a little at the gain knob, readjust the level so it sounds good for most other usage, and then I can use the Sub Adjust to bump it for movies or manufactured sounds (i.e. Electronica, etc).
I confirmed through experimentation that this does override the level setting, but cannot speak towards whether it overrides DEQ or any other Aud. feature that you may use.

When you say you turn the sub up a couple of notches do you mean you're turning the gain up on the sub itself? Before I do that I'd push the "Options" button "Channel Level Adjust", then "Subwoofer 1&2". Default should be "0" in that menu so when you add 3 or 4 dB you're adding 3 or 4 dB. Unlike in the trim settings under "Manual Setup" then "Levels". I don't mess with that at all. Audyssey sets my sub trims at -9 and -9.5 and I leave it there. I do all of my channel level adjustments with the options button.

Turning up the gain in the back of the sub is, in my mind, a crude way to adjust your levels. Going through the avr you can see how much you're bumping and you can be more precise about it. That and your ears should be all you need. FWIW I bump both of my subs +4 dB.

Yeah I mean the actual knob on the back of the PB1000 itself.
So your saying put the sub level back to -7 like Audyssey had it but adjust though the options? I'm getting a bit confused. Maybe I should just rerun Audyssey.

Yes, that's what I'm saying. I don't know if you need to rerun Audyssey but with all the adjusting you have going on I'd be tempted to.

Yeah that +4 on the Sub adjust threw me off. A friend told me your not really supposed to use that feature. I'm gonna rerun this week some time when I get a quiet day. When I rerun Audyssey should I hit the restore button in the Audyssey menu?

Not sure what subwoofer adjust is myself...where/how is this adjusted? If Audyssey set your sub to -7 that sounds reasonable, but bumping it by 11dB does sound a bit much. I wouldn't run Audyssey and then change the gain on the sub, I'd just use the avr for consistency's sake.

Audio, in the setup menu offers a "subwoofer level adjust" and can be turned on or off. Turning it on basically bypasses the trim settings Audyssey set. In Het's case, zero is +7.

Some avrs have a temporary/session type change, is this one of them or does it change the basic setup permanently?

It stays that way until you turn it off, I know that. I don't really mess with it. To me it just complicates things.

So it reverts to the Audyssey run setting if you turn it off meaning that particular setting or the avr in general? The ones I'm thinking of were just "session" settings so to speak, as after turning the avr off it would revert to the basic setting rather than the temporary sub level setting....

I have no idea, nor have I heard of or seen any session settings. All I know is, if you turn it on it bypasses the trim Audyssey sets for your sub (sub level adjust default is 0) and stays that way until you turn it off. Turning it off reverts back to where Audyssey set it. When Het realized it was on (he must have turned it on surfing through menus, who knows when?) it was at +4 (which equates to +11 in his case). He turned it off, reset the trim level manually to 0 and turned up the gain on his sub... sigh.

That's where he's at now. I have no idea what you're talking about when you say "session settings" or temporary setting... you have to manually turn it off. To me that means permanent until you change it.

I'm gonna try to run Audyssey again from scratch using my new tripod. I think I'm gonna have luck again because I know that I did right last time. I just need a quiet day. I'll shoot for tomorrow but might not happen. I'm resetting it to restore before I do but it's that necessary?

20 bucks for an app is completely insane. I can't justify that, sorry.
We will all give you 50 cents haha jk.

App is nice and peace of mind because you can see the results and approx before and after graphs. You can also use Reference and toggle midrange compensation and two different roll off curves. You can also test by limiting EQ to like 300hz etc.

It got 2.4 stars in the Android app. store. No way am I spending 20 bucks on an app. that got 2.4 stars. I'll make do with Audyssey from the receiver itself.
