Incorporating MiniDSP With Audyssey XT32

I am not sure about my noise floor but from the REW plots I think it is probably around 25 to 30 dB.
Below are the REW plots for different combinations of channels from 10 Hz to 300 Hz, hopefully that's what you meant by "with lower limit same as Subs only".. My subs really don't have much below 15 Hz.

Nope :(, and I apologise for the horrible sentence construction . To clarify,

Redraw the 'All Subs' waterfall so that it has same vertical scale as '7.1' plot. Ideally, both will have lowest plotted loudness match the observed noise floor. In effect, the noise floor dB value becomes the "floor" of the waterfall plot.

The logic here is that, once artifacts have lost enough energy to become indistinguishable from background, there's no point having them crowd your plot.

That’s very low, usually 40+
Rew shows 35-40 for me when I get everything turned off. I'll probably be doing sweeps Saturday morning and can run whatever and however I need to, to get accurate measurements and it's been cool enough in the mornings that I can turn my HVAC off for a while.

I think my noise floor is more like 35 dB. By the way, REW waterfall has a CSD option as well but I haven not figured out how to use it yet.

Same here, cool enough for me to turn HVAC off.

Yeah, 35-40, with 40+ with hvac, is more like it. 20-30 actually approaches odd or even unsettling for humans. Go to to the typical Indian rug store at the mall, and you can see what I mean.

That said, we just aren’t that sensitive to low frequency ringing, so you can ignore anything below 60 as a rule of thumb. Assuming no corresponding change in FR.

I'm ambivalent about adding the color grading. It doesn't add any new info to the viz and adds another dimension for confusing the observer. Notice the color grading is dependent on choice of vertical scale. 85-25, 75-15 and 75-15dB respectively. Right away, first's colors can't be compared with the second and third, yet, rest of the waterfall data can be.

That said, if a color grading paradigm is established, interpreting the waterfall can be dumbed down to, "ideally, on the 75-15dB color scale, when equalising to a 75dB reference: One shouldn't see any bumps, in the 1st from bottom green layer, after 300ms". Aka, RT40 of 0.3s in the bass bands.

I think that waterfall is ready for Pride week. Not that there's anything wrong with that.

I'm doing sweeps right now. Just took a series in pure direct. Speakers and subs individually, then together. Haven't applied any filters or anything yet.

Here we go.

10 - 6 Subs + Speakers.jpg
10-6 Before Waterfall.jpg

No smoothing, no eq, default settings, pure direct. What I would like to do is, sum the subs (lfe) into one channel and sum the bass section of my towers (l/r stereo, not lfe) as the other channel. I would like to back able to tweak the towers from about 80hz to 150 or so. There's some nastiness around 90-150 hz between my towers and my subs.

If I do sweeps with the xover set at 80hz, I think it can work. Any tweaks above 80hz or so I do to the sub section of my towers. Anything below I would apply filters to the subs.

The spl graphs are with XO set to what?

*Edit: Sweeps in pure direct are identical when overlaid in regular stereo. I have Audyssey off manual eq off and factory defaults for the rest.

Let's ditch the colors (NTTAWWT) for now and not make a thing of it on AH.
Pogre's plot has colors blending into each other vs Peng's are discrete bands.
Between 4 waterfall plots we have 3 vertical scales.
Back to basics. Give me a boring monochrome waterfall.

If you like the colors, I recommend using the Spectrogram function. This gives a much clearer understanding of the room's resonances.

I’d be curious to see the XO set to 250. This will let you see the two “blended” together. As it is there is a big ‘ol dip in the in the 80 range where it should be a lil smoother I believe. BTW. Since you biamped the towers do you hear anything different?

This is 3 different xovers after I applied rew filters. If I leave it at 80hz I'm kinda screwed as far as my issues above it.

I didn't do that intentionally. That's just how it came out.

And I don't know how to change it! :p

Oh! There it is... a couple more graphs.

10-6 waterfall.jpg
10-6 spectrogram.jpg

This is both subs and speakers together with filters from REW. I haven't done anything manually or run Audyssey yet. The crossover is set at 150hz for this particular sweep. I just wanted to change the color and show a much improved waterfall and Spectrogram. Turning off all the noisy stuff in the house helped for sure.

As you raise the XO, try adding some distance in the avr. Maybe 6” at a time and see if that smooths anything out. Normally it will.

There's something I haven't tried! Still doesn't solve any of my issues above wherever the crossover point is would it? I still need to go higher to be able to adjust anything, correct? Bear in mind I haven't ran Audyssey yet. It's currently turned off and the settings are default values. I manually rest all of the trim levels to 0 also.
