I found the same to be true on the multi-channel SACD of Weather Reports "Mysterious Traveler". This is my least favorite multichannel
purchase by far. This recording has tons of percussion and this mix
has it flying all over the room to the point of distraction.

Don't care for Diana Krall's "When I look into your eyes". Never heard any
Krall material...took a chance on this since it was DVD-A. I guess she's
just not my cup of tea. I found the mix distracting as well...but it was more
likely the disinterest in the music.

The Captain and Me is one of the few Doobie CDs (or albums) I don't
have. I think most of the hits off of it are on the Best of CD that I have,
but I'll pick up this DVD-A if I see it. Only 70's rock I have right now on DVD-A
is Abraxous which sounds great (considering how noisy the original mix was).
That has a lot of percussion but it is nicely placed in all channels.

You may also want to check out 'Everything Must Go' by Steely Dan, considering it was mixed for multichannel. If memory serves correct, it has also won awards for the quality (though no surprise there)!

I have the conventional version of EMG and while I've only listened to it a couple of times, I wasn't blown away by the CD the way I was expecting.
I mean I liked it OK enough, but it didn't compare well, IMO, to Two against Nature. I'll give it another listen and see if I'm being too hard on it. Of course I could probably justify buying it on sonics alone.

Maybe I can get somebody to swap the Diana Krall with me since everyone seems to be ga-ga over her! :)

Today I've been listening to Osunlade (an African band). Cantos A Ochun Et Oxa is a demonstration of what rhythm and beat are all about. This band is maybe the tightest band I've ever heard. Even casual listeners comment on how tight the music is.

Raffi - Banana Phone (on endless repeat in Winamp)

Not bad swing, especially for a kid's song.

That sounds interesting...I may go to FYE and get a sample of that. Is it anything like that project Stewart Copeland did with an African drummer band after he broke up with the Police? I forget their name but they are legendary over there. It was called "The Rythmist"...it was pretty smooth...and as you put it "tight". Check it out if you haven't.

Vince Guaraldi - A Charlie Brown Christmas

This is one of my all-time favorite recordings. It's been around for a lot of years, but it's some damn solid trio jazz.

Steely Dan - Gaucho

Perfection, if not over perfection.

Fun facts: The Dynamic Duo used over 300 rolls of 2-inch tape in the making of this album..and their favorite song still got erased by a newbie studio tech...

John Mayer 'Home life' on Heavier Things. SACD Hybrid MC. It sounds very good. An excellent recording IMO.

That John Mayer album is excellent, but I was disappointed by the SACD. Pretty blase and uninvolving surround mix, and really not much if any better sounding than the (already excellent sounding) CD. Still, one of the best albums of the year, IMO.

To me the multchannel sounds quite good, but I only have four SACD titles to date. Two of which are classical, and the other is AKUS live (which sounds killer I think). I plan to acquire some other titles soon.

Just experienced DVD-A for the first time with Steely Dan's "Everything Must Go".

Like being in the middle of the band, really ! And they are very good.

heres my 2 cents

Alvin Lee in Tennessee. He plays with some dudes from Elvis's band, and you can tell. Highly suggest... :) :)
