$79 each
x 4
= 316
+
center v-5c = $90
= 406 +

Btw.

Isn't that, fundamentally, 2 "drivers" (speakers) on one channel?[/QUOTE]

Nope, three. :D All hooked to an internal crossover and impedence matched to present the correct impedence at the terminal.

So.. what you are telling me is that somehow.. this box.. has a wire coming out of a reciever, (i.e. standard speaker wire) then that speaker wire is hooked into it, and then not only 2, but THREE speakers are run off that speaker wire?

oof.. this sounds awful similiar to something i've seen before.

They still make these? I remember these from the 70's when they were imported to replace Wharfedale by the importer. Being a Wharfedale owner then (40 C's), I wasn't too impressed with them then. They seemed a little "thin" on the mid/upper bass.

Are they still making them or are we talking vintage?

They are still making them, and they sound much better than they used to. Their center channel, the 62, is one of the best centers you can buy at any price range. They have a new line of speakers out now that are pretty highly rated - called Acoustech's. They feature a 96 dB sensitivity rating and rate the speakers with a +/- 3dB system, something only the better mfg's seem to do. It's an entire 5.1 setup for under $1000. Pretty impressive to someone just starting out.

Still making them. I have their center chan and it really sounds nice. I saw these DV84's and was thinking about getting them for my dad's system.

They are really cheap online. I heard some of their older stuff a few years ago (not bad), and was wondering how these were. I've read a lot of good stuff, RE bang for the buck and such.

Inelesting... veddy intelesting.

They used to be "British Industries Corporation". Are they still hq'd there or did somebody buy simply the name? From the price, I'd think they were made in asia. Are they available for audition through B & M or are they purely net speakers?

There are places that demo them, you can call if there is a place near you. Ive seen those 84's for ~$200 I figure for that price you cant go wrong. Heck I'll toss them in the garage if they dont sound that good

They are now headquartered in Ohio, and can be demo'd in Costo (call first).

They must be pretty new.

In early 2002 I was scouting for speakers for a then new/growing HT. I was looking at local possibilities and even some net options. I never noticed them then.

After comparing (in house) the various big names in the price range I was looking at (Polk, Infinity, PSB, Paradigm) and comparing sound/dollar figures, I wound up with Athena's.

I would like to have had a chance tho hear these but, I gotta say, neigh on three years later, I don't regret my purchase.

...but you never know....

FWIW, here's my main toys. http://cgi.audioasylum.com/systems/1606.html

Aaawww... I missed all that good fun with boy genius, oh well.

By the way guys great way to diffuse that discussion, although it was freakin hilarious.

What' s the opinion here on VERITY AUDIO speakers. Do their price reflect thier performance, and or materials used? I mean, $79,000american, that's a little steep, even for the super rich, NO?

... that at some point performance has less to do with what one wants when they shell out big bucks than image. Not to drag up an old icon, a Rolex doesn't KEEP better time than a timex but you sure MAKE better time with a Rolex. ;)

Well there Mallomar...

...or bad cat or whatever...I was referring to analog and therefore, electrical connections...you know, REAL HI-FI...plug your optical, hence digital, source into whatever you want to, knock yourself out...you'll need either a quantity of fiber-optic cable or lamp-cord...it's sounds like it's still gonna' be a multi-room deal one way or another...

And BTW, there are two-, three-, four-, and yes, even five-way loudspeaker systems and they all connect to one channel...but they are designed for a purpose and not because someone happened upon a couple of extra speakers...

jimHJJ(...first we get the other one playin' twenty questions and we find out it's all about INDIA and now this...SHEESH!!! mark...what show? where?...)

Attached is another speaker with multiple drivers. It has 6, but you only need 1 speaker cable to connect it. Sorry if you already know this, you seem kinda ignorant to the subject ATM.

Heard em? I'm listening to them right now!

I have a old set of BIC venturi bookshelves as my surround speakers. They are not bad and didn't cost much.

btw the label on the back says they are located in Stow Ohio.

No, that "box" is the loudspeaker. The loudspeaker has three DRIVERs (not "speakers") which are connected to a single speaker cable. The loudspeakers internal crossover network tells which part of the loudspeaker to reproduce which sound.
