SVS or Monoprice

Looking for opinions on which is better woofer to add to my basement projector room.

These are two I'm looking at:

SVS Sb-3000

Anyone have experience with either of these two and would one be better than the other? Or are they a horse a peice?

Well the main thing is that the svs is sealed and the monolith is ported. Two different animals, and IMO, for HT and especially in a larger room, ported wins every time. The svs equivalent is probably the svs pb2k, but I believe the monoprice is a touch better in performance.
If you’re interested in the pb3k, for just a little bit more I’d buy a pair of monoprice. This will give you better overall performance.

What is your budget? There are other good options from RSL, HSU, Rythmik and PSA etc.

Thye SVS sub will have more midbass headroom, the Monoprice will have more deep bass. But this isn't an apples to apples comparison as William Lemmerhirt pointed out.

How big is your room?

As mentioned above sealed subs will offer some advantages (smaller size for one) but ported will offer more bass.

SVS has much better customer service than monoprice by a wide margin. Why don’t you call SVS and just talk to one of their advisors. They are quite helpful and may be able to save you some money on a year end bundle of perhaps two subs at the same time. Two subs will produce more bass of course but also smoother bass with fewer problems in your room.

Room size is 20x20x9

New to most of this home theater audio stuff, so I'm pretty green. Someone above mentioned that the ported sub will put out more, which makes sense. But would this be the case in the two I linked? The ported sub is 500 RMS 900 peak vs. non ported at 800 RMS 2500 peak. Even with this difference the ported will outperform?

Budget on a sub right now is around 1k. The wife bought me the Monoprice in wall dual 8" with an amp for Xmas at that price. I already have one of these in my wall (picked up this set dirt cheap around Thanksgiving for under 400). Definitely not worth full price tag of 1k so looking to go a different route. Wish I never had gone this route from the start, looks alot better hidden in the wall but the performance is not good. The hole is already cut so the one is there to stay.

I also didn't want exposed wires so that's why I tried the in wall route. Didnt realize till later that this was an option to go wireless

Ported subs will be more efficient down to their tuning, requiring less power in most instances. Sealed subs will require more power and some sort of DSP is needed to extend its response. So in short don't worry about the amp's wattage just the features.

I would only add that the SVS has a great app that I find very useful.

Agree about the ease of use with the SVS app once the sub or subs are in place. Easy to control from my iPhone or iPad. SVS also has excellent customer service. You can talk to someone live after you’ve purchased to troubleshoot any issues you might have.
