Some words regarding Neal Young removing his music from Spotify.

Okay, I've been silent on this very important subject but can no longer hold my tongue...

Nickelback ain't that bad. I even think they have a few actual good songs, and a few that one might even consider heavy metal. I don't think they're an awesome band, but I do think they unfairly get a bad rap.

First album was fine. I gave up after that. Them and Theory of a Dead Man are pretty much the same band.

I don't know. Nickelback without a singer sounds great. When he starts, the lyrics are so bad I can't listen.

Same for Van Halen. Hot For Teacher is one of the most technically difficult songs ever to exist...and has horrifically bad lyrics.

Who wrote the lyrics? Was it David Lee Roth? Blame him, not the band.

FWIW, I saw Roth at Summerfest and if there's one thing he can do, it's his ability to attract an extremely attractive crowd of females. He was no spring chicken at the time, but they were there, in force.

If you think that's difficult, check out Alan Holdsworth- Eddie said many times, "If there's no Alan Holdsworth, there's no Van Halen".

Don't understand the success of Chevell and Fountains of Wayne, either- I saw both at Summerfest and they had great crowds, but Chevelle was another one trick pony, Fountains were totally bland. Maybe I saw them too early in their careers, but I have seen other 'unknown' bands that were excellent, even though most people in the crowd didn't know who they were.

I was at their show with a friend of a friend who was completely in awe of Chevelle and when I said they didn't interest me, I thought his head would explode. OTOH, I'm at least ten years older than the others I was with, which means I lived through the crap music before the Beatles and everything that came after. The music from 1964-1969 alone was worth being older- hearing it 10-15 years later wouldn't be the same as hearing it when it first hit the airwaves. I think I said something like "Listen to Cream, Zepplin, Hendrix and others from the late-'60s and consider what came before".

They're just too corny.

Apparently, they had management that didn't explain that a band needs to reinforce their recordings by PLAYING LIVE IN FRONT OF CROWDS. So many bands couldn't sell records because radio didn't know how to categorize them, which resulted in not playing their music, yet they absolutely killed, live. So many unheard of acts that are amazing......

I think La Gargola is my favorite album, but their first one is very good too. It's the one that got my attention to begin with.

I never thought about it like that, but yeah... I'd say I think of them like I do Godsmack. Exactly the way you put it. They're both competent, have some good songs, but nothing groundbreaking and a li'l boring after a while. Still very listenable tho.

However one feels about the issue, one thing does seem to be happening.
We are seeing the Tipper Gore effect on this. For the younger, yes she was Al Gore's wife, who in the 1980s was offended by some of Prince's lyrics amoung other artists. We even had Senate hearings on the subject. Waste of taxpayers money as usual.
So what happened. Well Prince, et al, gained more fans. Spotify and JR should do well from this.
Oddly, most of my friends who were outraged at the idea of censorship of anything back then are for censorship now. Especially of things they do not agree with. Getting old sucks for some.

Who is to define misinformation? A lot of things that were “facts” from 2019 through 2021 are now deemed to be no longer factual. Hell, if we ignore dissenting opinions, we would all still believe the world is flat. I suggest that if we were all a little more open to hearing contrary opinions, we would be better off. The best antidote for wrong speech is more speech.
