I think you're dramatically understating the aspect that Trump is in power because a large portion of Americans voted for and put him there. I'm aware that US politics are divided, but it's also abundantly clear to the rest of the world that this can and did happen because Americans elected it.

I'm fully aware of it. I predicted Biden would win in '20, and Trump would win in '24. I'm also aware Trump is the biggest @#$& I've ever seen in the 9 years observing his political years.

And I'm just saying that the rest of the world knows Trump is (supposed to be) a temporary thing, as presidents are. The sentiment in that article runs deeper than just Trump. The American electorate is responsible for what it puts forth and presents the rest of the world with and I think the loss of trust is a bit more fundamental than "all will be forgiven when he leaves office". The issues leading to this situation go beyond just the candidate.

That's not to say that other countries haven't soiled the sheets over the years with poor choices either. But the US has also long styled itself as "leaders of the free world", etc, etc and purposefully put itself in that role. The fallout of doing an about face on that isn't likely to wash away as easily. I'm disagreeing with the "recovery will be quick after" sentiment.

No I just figured how do you screw up $2 a gallon or whatever it was? Well you be an a$$hole like Trump. Easy LOL. I never really though covid was the overriding reason. It was a blue wave. Then gas under Biden was $3 or more and eggs were high and whatnot. I didn't think the economy was as bad as the right were trying to say, but it could have been better.

Right now the vibe to me is Gavin, but Vance is a good debater. I'd be interested to know if Gavin has become more conservative recently or if that's a figment of my imagination? Vance I'd like to see beaten in the primaries by someone who is fresh off the wagon. Rubio wouldn't be bad in the sense he's under the Trump administration but has managed to not really be much a part of them if you know what I mean.

Edit: still my core belief is Trump has made America dumber. Also these supporters who liked Trump's behavior back then who couldn't understand why he lost in '20. One person here said Trump's behavior is no different than that jerk of a co-worker. Why that is flawed is because you are comparing the average everyday co-worker to the POTUS.

Not a fan of the 'we got stuck with him again' since I assume quite a few voters like Trump. Hopefully they don't like "him" and instead like his policy, but it's Republican voters so hehehe.... as to dumb examples it isn't even close between Trump and Biden. While Biden was sleeping, Trump was opening his mouth or doing something else dumb for the media LOL. I disagree that it's "equal" in terms of examples.

While no administration is/was perfect, Biden's was the epitome of competence in comparison with Trump's first term in office. DJT's conduct then - and certainly during Biden's term - should have been a clear indication that another term under him was going to be even worse than the first.

A Harris presidency - or a second Biden term for that matter - would not have inflicted disasters like Hegseth, RFK Jr, DOGE, or trade wars. The American electorate* had no half-assed excuse - never mind a plausible justification - for putting Trump back in office.

I apologize for my bluntness, but I thought it had to be said.

*While the Harris campaign could have done a better job, the sad fact is that she should have been able to sit at home and put her feet up - and still won the election.

The rest of the World trusted the US (to whatever degree) before, why would it need to take decades since nobody before or after Trump is similar/same? Refusing to trust anyone from US government because of one person isn't rational. OTOH, I don't trust anyone in Washington DC, especially Congress- they have known the American public/voter approval rating has been 20% or below for a helluva long time, but they don't give a rat's ass and refuse to change. Well, they refuse to improve- they change, but for the worse.

A lot of us want term limits and no hands-on investing, but expecting them to police themselves is naiive at best, stupid, at worst.
