acoustically transparent. Good ones are $$$$.

Its only after I set everything up, sooooo excited about great video, did I truly come to fully understand the benefits of AT.

Right now.... I have 109 in width, and with my current gear box, I only have about 47 inches in hight for the screen. I could move my gear cabinet.... but it was a present from the W's father, and I would have to give up my hand made cat 6 cables.... lol.... they have sentamental value now after 1000000 hours of braiding.

this...

yes please...... But I don't think I am ready for that. We will probably move from this house in 5-7 years depending on the market. Nothing I can't take down would be best.

I've seen and worked with Stewart, Draper, and D-lite screens.
The screen in my house is a 8' across D-lite pull down. I got this because it was replaced with a Stewart Greyhawk. and It's hard to turn down a free screen.

With my next house, I will have a dedicated theater room with 10' ceilings. I'll be putting in a 10-12' motorized screen....Stewart Greyhawk.. Unless something better comes out in the next 2yrs.

Anyways, Here are two links to short reads that may help.

Visual apex has it less even. When you add to cart and factor in the 300 rebate. 1899.

Took forever to go through there "would you also like this?" menu
It's $2349 after the rebate on VA. I think you are accidentally referring to the non "UB" version.

you gentlemen are brilliant.

I used their side by side comp and must have clicked the wrong PJ. Good call.

I have been scanning the AVS forum quite a bit now actualy, and I find that the tech talk quickly goes over my head. Those curved AT screans are becomming more and more interesting.

I would only need it for the center chan really but it could be fun. I just don't think I have the dedication to try to build a stand alone unit like some of those guys. I am not up to that skill level. It would allow me a much larger screan, as my ceilings are low. I'm really trying to figure out how to change the location of my gear box. I would be so sad to give up my home brew wires though! =)

Not only do curved screens have a cool factor, they also help reverse pincushioning in constant image height set-ups due to the use of an anamorphic lens.

Some DIY curved screens to inspire you...

Those are amazing!

I now have a couple questions that I didn't think I would have.

To play movies in anamorphic would I need to add a special seperate lens to the 180UB?

I really am toying with the whole idea of DIY AT curved... But I have a couple issues. For Good fabric, what would I expect to pay? Cost and my inexperence of building a frame really come into play here.

I have cat's, I'm slightly worried about not being able to roll it up. It LOOKS amazing in those pictures. But I don't want to have to kill sweet little kitty for wrecking my screen.

Good read up on 2.35 CIH: http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=554901

As far as fabric goes, Guilford of Maine (or GOM) is the choice of many. You can get a sample piece before purchasing. I believe it's AT as well.

In regards to the cats, I have no idea how you would handle that, haha.

Ooh, that Optoma HD806 looks interesting!

DLP, 2000 Lumens, 8000:1 Contrast, 1080p:

You might wait to see the reviews on this one first.:D

I have the more expensive flagship Optoma HD81-LV and it is extremely bright with awesome black levels. I mean it looks like I'm watching regular TV!

That is the one thing I hated about most projectors at the stores. Everytime I went to Ultimate Electronics HT stores and checked out all the projectors they had, all the pictures looked kind of grey to me. I think the reason is because they used that "Cinema" or "Movie" mode or something, which cuts down on the contrast severely.

Just like my computer monitors, I like that Contrast setting way up and Brightness setting to be about 50%.:D

I like blacks to be completely black, not grey. I want whites to be completely white, not grey. And colors to be colorful and vivid, not dull. Know what I mean?:D

You stated exactly what I am looking for! I can't stand any box store. They don't even wire a display correctly half of the time.

Yeah, for $2,257 (free shipping), that Optoma HD806 has awesome specs!

I would still wait for some professional reviews, but 2,000 Lumens is very bright. The 1080UB is 1500 Lumens. If the reviews are as good as the HD81-LV or HD81 or 1080UB, I would have to say that this HD806 is a best buy. Defintitely worth keeping a eye on!
