I' always tell these people that love the socialist idea, have you ever been to a REAL socialist county,. Well I have, Cuba and Algeria. Sure to visit , but not to live, the poor and nasty surrounds the areas. After 60 years of the "Revolucion," the Cuban people are still waiting for the democratic election that Fidel Castro promised them. Socialist leaders promised to bring down dictators only to replace them with their own Marxist dictatorships in places like China, North Korea, Vietnam and Laos. Go have a visit for a month or two.

Well the minimum wage increase back fire in the coming years if it passes , to early to tell. Give it time for the results to come in.

So was your company one of those that will keep that 10x performer in the same roll due to their strong output in any way possible, often even promoting people who’s performance was not as good to avoid possibly losing that person’s strong output if they were promoted to another job? That happens where I am all the time.
In my case, it wasn't just one company, it was several companies.

I was one of the people you are discussing early on in my product development career. I'll never forget the day in an all-hands meeting, where a colleague's promotion to our group manager was announced. There were about 30 or so of my peers in the meeting, and it seemed like every one of them looked over at me when Charlie's name was called out, curious I suppose about how I would react. I was crestfallen, but in retrospect I can see potential reasons why I wasn't chosen, and I suspect if I had gotten the more senior role I would have crashed and burned. I was such a terrible people manager back then. Technology - easy. Maturity and self-awareness - improvement was required. Though they never explained their reasoning, years later I figured perhaps the senior management wasn't as conniving and political as they appeared, and I just wasn't the right candidate. Perhaps the same is the case for one or more of the examples you've seen.

I'm sorry you woke up from your pot high in a bad mood, but denying that there is a measurable perform difference qualitatively and quantitatively between humans performing the same task is silly.
Who said anything about being high on pot....

please tell me I was one of the two idiotic posts you had to reply to, please.

I inferred it from your tirade in post #118. Are you saying you agree, but you just chose to make an unsubstantiated personal attack? Whatever.

Social democracy and socialism are NOT the same thing... The majority of European countries are social democracies, per the marshal plan...that's the US invention Marshall plan... The US was a social democracy in the 30s through 70s.. Along comes Reagan and trickle down economics and deregulation... Nice work...

Cuba has had a socialist political system since 1959

""Elected politicians have relatively little sway over Algeria. Instead, a group of unelected civilian and military "décideurs" ("deciders"), known as "le pouvoir" ("the power"), actually rule the country, even deciding who should be president "" That sure sounds fair for the people.

Seriously, I have no life.
Rhetoric. Excuses to pay slave wages..
Then, start your own damn business.

My uncle was one of the first Rheumatoid Arthritis patients to receive Cortizone and it ruined his kidneys. He was bedridden from the late-'40s until he died in about 1976- did he sit there and do nothing? Nope. His hands were about as distorted as I have ever seen, yet he learned to diagnose and repair electronics- he was a music lover, so audio equipment is what he repaired and once others found out about it, he could make a few bucks while he lived on assistance, in government housing in PHX. He repaired a Sony open reel machine and one day, we got an audio tape as his way of sending a letter because A) it was incredibly difficult for him to write, B) it was very difficult to read and C) because he could record songs for me to learn on the old guitar he had sent, since he couldn't play it. We bought a small recorder and sent tapes to him in return and I got to play some of the songs for him to hear. He was one of those people who could only write with a fat pen or if a tongue depressor was taped to a normal one and even then, it wasn't easy because his fingers barely moved.

I only met him twice- first, in Dec of '66 and Aug of '69- both times and on tape, he was very cheerful because he was happy to see family. The rest of the time, he may have been the most miserable SOB on the planet but from the people who stopped by to see him while we were there, I don't think that was the case.

He needed to be fed, bathed, moved and dressed by others for about 30 years but I doubt he would have envied your ability to walk because, for some reason, he seemed happy to be alive.

You have options that aren't available to many others- use them. You can use a computer- Spectrum is hiring Customer Support people, even for part-time if you couldn't work full-time.

Democratic Socialism is different from Social Democracy, too. They shouldn't be used interchangeably.

The people I was thinking of are paid well into six figures. However, the same thinking applies to many so-called blue collar jobs too. There are large differences in the quality of work between plumbers and electricians, two trades where I've dealt with individuals recently. You can be as angry at the world as you want, but it doesn't change reality.

stop trying to demonize me through the "heroic" adventures of your anecdotal friends and family .. i'll discuss policy and story with you BUT FUKKING LAY OFF the personal condemnation, period.. we've had rational discussions ..don't act like that di$$head Irv ,who makes everything a personal issue.. my social attitude is NOT your business or your worry, keep your opinions about me to yourself ... have a nice day...:)
With your incessant whining and complaints you naturally draw out these anecdotes from people. If you don't want to see posts like this, just stop whining.

i would never consider cuba a model country for how things should run.. the "right" whatever that entails seems dead set on comparing democratic socialism to venezuela , cuba , china ect ect.. now here's the rub , when was the last time a "leftist" politician compared current gop trends of supporting autocracy to ww2 germany or italy during rational debate? probably been a while .. but i have heard numerous gop elected talking heads compare biden's ideas to venezuelan , cuban ect ect in open discussion on the floor of congress.. the gop does one thing much better than the dems ... misinformation for purposes of winning elections..if they wanted to openly discuss canada vs usa policy or norway vs usa policy , i'd be obliged to consider the details, but they won't imo because they know it's a losing debate once the #'s start to get published for their constituents to consider...

Never heard anything that you are talking about.

Also:
Denmark (or your favorite Scandinavian country) is a prime example that socialism works. The reality is, Denmark has a free-market economy that produces the goods and services that the government then heavily taxes to finance an extensive welfare state.
Despite American socialists' claims, Denmark's prime minister once told a shocked Washington, D.C., audience: "I would like to make one thing clear ... Denmark is a market economy." The nation actually has a great deal of economic freedom with few business regulations and no minimum wage (along with the other Scandinavian countries). Like Denmark, Sweden, Finland and Norway all rely on free-market capitalism to finance their expansive welfare systems.

is Canada socialist’ is… not really! Canada is a Social democracy – a capitalist multi-party state with socialist policies to improve the quality of life. Canada seems to have found the perfect blend of socialism and capitalism that works for them.
:Canada does not have free education.
:Socialism does not believe in private ownership of any kind, but Canada still has a private business, land ownership, and private schools, and hospitals. Canada has a whole thriving private sector, so it can’t be truly socialist!
:Canada is still a free market regardless of how good its welfare and benefits systems are. A core principle of socialism is that people have control of enterprise and production.

Canada does not have this system as the state only controls around 35 percent of the market (rather than the minimum 80 percent seen under socialism).

:Canada has multi-party elections that are free and fair. What this means is that Canada could be quite socialist under one administration, but could be a conservative capitalist nation under another administration. This means that Canada cannot be truly socialist as true socialism would only have socialist parties with socialist policies.

Ok .. As for the rest .. You do a great job of making a whole bunch of my points for me.. The biggest one being that many other countries spend less and have better outcomes in many facets of spending including healthcare...I'm not sure of why the great effort to discredit my thought by trying to reinvent descriptions of political philosophy.. How about we talk poverty #s vs us as well as life expectancy vs healthcare cost.. Now , that's a real discussion vs the quest for mastery of semantics...Edit .. Never once did i say that a free market system and social democracy can't co exist , that's a gop assumption of " radical leftists" of which I'm not , but right-wing folks seem to assume as well... Being a fly fisherman i didn't taker you as a likely candidate as a troll...
Not even worth an answer.

Me being a lover of flyfishing has no freaking bearing on anything you obnoxious immature troll. What are you 16 with your insults , grow up.
