It's a shame you didn't know where to put your wires when you did you room. The side speakers are almost useless.

I like the rug and tables, really brings a nice earthy tone to the room :)

sheep, i considered moving everything to a dedicated room but decided it would cost too much money. i too am frustrated with the surrounds which is why I rarely take pics of them.

soon I'm gonna mess up the room even more with some room treatments :)

seth, I figure any decent bookshelf will do a great job for a PC, this one is slightly overkill :) the subwoofer is even more of an overkill for the PC. I'm waiting for my new PC to arrive today or tomorrow, then I can test it for games :)

Wait, which sub are you using for the PC, the smaller Velodyne?

Did you read the link?

but the infinity IL10 looks very cool looking. i wish infinity still made cool looking speakers like that
Don't we all, that was the last cool looking mid-fi speaker they made. The Entra series had a very similar look but had smaller tweeters and cheasy looking plastic. The Infinity speakers are far from perfect, but with the mod I did it tamed their boomy bass down to a reasonable nearfield level.

That Cnet review is phony, looks like a copy and past from Infinity's website. I remember reading the exact same words like "trickle down" and statements like "more Ella Fitsgerald than Britney Spears" and "Near identical twin to the $2000 Intermezzo 2.6 tweeter"

Hi Mike,

may I have your comments please?

Thanks Mike,

well, so far the 696 performance for me has been a no-brainer at all.
I've set it to 1080i and overall image is better than 720p.

Being this my firsrt dive into the HDMI world, I'm really impressed with the overall improvement on PQ, not only with the 696 (which is HDMI), but with other gears as well (DVD 393 & Lite On DVR / VHS combo), considering they're not HDMI equipped. My AVR is a Denon 3806 and I have the HDMI monitor out to TV, so all other gears are taking advantage out of the HDMI.

Just out of curiosity, how much did you pay for your 696?

Cheers / Avliner.

hi avliner, sorry I forgot where that post was.

the 696 was a little over 120bucks, the 390 was a little over 90bucks

I heard someone say that It would be better to use the 720p output rather than the 1080i. although it did improve the PQ of SD dvd's. It's kinda like asking me to never hit the gas on a sports car. maybe one of these days I'll give it a try.

wow, 120 bucks only? What a nice deal (I've payed twice as much).
Well, I believe you've got yours in the Phillipines, right?

Regarding to the 720p x 1080i, PQ gets a bit better on 1080i, so there's no reason to " downgrade it" ...

By the way, congrats on your system; pretty nice.

Cheers / Avliner.

I feel its great to see the frequency response realtime (to me very much worth the tag price) ... I have my frequency response relatively flat but still cant get the kick in the chest I want (i've moved the mic from where my head is supposed to be to my chest area and bumping up frequencies between 50-60hz. still no kick.

moreover, I have discovered that I have a peak at around 100hz that I can't touch :)

overall, its a great sub, it has eliminated any need to use multiple subs, because it can do it all by itself. But like all audio purchases, after purchasing, I have yet to really play with it - I'm spending more time looking at future upgrades. this habit of mine really sucks. I'm actually waiting for some room treatment before playing with it, I'm postponing watching some movies because I want to watch them after treatments and equalizing again.

Mike,
I assume you have your Theatre/Music setting at the 1 setting for your movie watching. Makes a big difference. Where do you have the volume and crossover set?
A before and after comparison for your room treatments might be nice.
:)

yup, movie watching at 1 ... music listening at 8 (although I havent even played a single song on the system YET)

80hz crossover, -> you're thinking maybe I should turn it to 60 hz so the peak will also move down?

no treatments, no eq

will take another pic when I move the sub to a new location

Mike,
You rooms natural FR curve looks good. 3Db's does not a peak make. You should mosey on over to the AVS forum and look in the Velo EQ Thread. Your's is one of the better looking FR curves I've seen mine included. Also, your volume is only at 15. Remember it is a 1-99 scale. Try 30 and see how it sounds.

thanks, will try it louder.

I found the best location in my room due to the room eq wizard :) its easier moving the axiom sub than this DD, the SPL meter has paid for itself already :)

I think the peak increases as I mess with the EQ sliders ... will take a pic of the eq'd thingy (I do have 2 sliders boosting 6db each at 15hz - i dont like seeing that drop to 77.5db :) )
