Marantz 6014 or Denon 3600

I use Audyssey on the Marantz and the Denon. I've re-calibrated so many times now I have found the only thing Audyssey really does for me, measure distances. I have familiarized myself and I pretty much change volumes and frequencies to my liking. Because I am frequently tinkering around I prefer the sr7012, it gives me more options and control than the x1500. The X1500 is dated although it's only 8 months old to me.

Regardless of the debate on sound quality, I think 100% of people will take the SR7012 over the X1500. I mean, who wouldn't take the SR7012 over the X1500?

Yes. But, the Salon 2's are HUGE. Nearly 5 feet tall, 160 pounds. My rp8000f barely fit downstairs. My theater room is a box, 12 x 13 x 8 foot ceilings. My music room is bigger, taller much more of an open room. If somehow I do get the salon's downstairs, now I have salon's pairing up with Klipsch. I have no idea how that would sound since I have not tried. Maybe one day I will. For me, I like having a separate room. For some that may not be an option. I like having 2 separate set ups, for some they may not wanna spend that kinda of money.

It's not all about the money. It's about CONVENIENCE, especially when they can have it all in ONE system. Even if people were billionaires, a lot of people would still want just ONE room.

If I want to watch a movie right now. Then listen to music 5 minutes later, why would I want to walk across my 5,500 SF house? Then if I want to watch a movie again 15 minutes later, why would I want to walk across my 5,500 SF house again?

Price. I paid $350 for the denon and under $1000, I think $899 plus tax for the sr7012. I still think the marantz was the better buy. You get much much more for the buck

When people buy AVR, I get the feeling they will not be comparing a Denon X1500 vs Marantz SR7012. They are just not in the same price class. They serve 2 different purposes. The SR7012 is probably for a main system, while the X1500 is probably for a secondary system.

exactly. and I ditched that whole denon second system. Damn you have a BIG house. You could set up all kins of rooms. My house less than 1/2

Having 2 rooms work fine also. Nothing wrong either way. For you, having 2 rooms is just perfect. But everyone has a different situation. And it's not about money or anything in particular.

I gave it all away,. The x1500 and Klipsch: rfII's rp140sa, spl120, r52c. My dad is enjoying it. He's 79, I'll get it back in a few years. lol

That's what you said, that's why I chimed in. I was unable to get my 7.2.4 theater room to meet my expectations for hifi music. Hence I built/bought a 2 channel system for hifi music

Musical...you asked if one is more "musical" than the other...no...but the only reason you might want to use the multi-ch analog inputs is if you were playing back hi res multi-ch or 2 ch music and you wanted to use analog inputs instead of HDMI.

I playback using the Oppo 205 player...it has the 7.1 analog jacks as well...I'm connected to the prepro both ways using the 7.1 & HDMI ports...in my case the 7.1 terminates at a DAC that supposed to be one of the better ones...slight difference between the analog and HDMI output, but not something I would spend $400 for.

Yes, but some people are fixated on the alleged audible difference due to the individual unit's sound quality and/or signature, not features.

That is exactly why the Denon 4500 sounds better than the Marantz 7008! Better control. The Audyssey app is the game changer for me.
I have generally found (depending on the room) that good speakers do not need Audyssey, however, treatment of the room modes at lower frequencies will benefit almost any system!

Audibly it maybe a slight difference, but we both know the 205's DAC is far superior than the one in the AV8805, let alone the lower grade ones in the Marantz receivers in terms of specs and measurements.

I have a Marantz SR7011 that sounds very nice, but have found the less expensive Denon X4500 gives me even higher quality sound!
My best guess is that the 4500 allows me to have more control over Audyssey so I can apply it to address the (lower frequency - below ~270Hz) room modes exclusively!
However, this begs the question for @chrysler82000 :
Do you use Audyssey? There is a pretty substantial difference in what 32XT does with your Marantz SR7012 and what the lower version of Audyssey does with the Denon X1500!

Like ADTG alluded to, a normal person would much prefer the 7012.. I wonder why the two are even being compared in the first place.

I'll just go back to one more thing on the Denon 1500 vs Marantz 7012 comparo and then stfu ....it's not soundstage coming from the electronics, that's your room, speakers and the recording itself that determines that. You may hear some sort of difference, just saying it isn't soundstage. As others have said they're not particularly comparable but they are more similar than different in many ways.

It was me! You did it by brand in general rather than specific unit, which was my point. The D&M brands are just differntiated by marketing for the most part....
