Doh my bad on the suggestion, didn't realize. Yeah that's what I meant by ty, you know, for the permission as you put it . . .

Not at all, I see what you mean now about it being a ty gift but it's still a matter of affording a nice rack or making do with what I have. The girl thinks I'm going to run across a nice rack for cheap. You and I know that ain't happening.

Here's that table unadorned with gear ... I preserved the painting but re-did everything else.

I spent hours rearranging gear to get it to this point. This would be so much simpler with a rack. Even my g/f asked me yesterday why I had not bought one. That sounds like permission to me. Now all I need is money but then what would I do with the telephone table?

You spent hours rearranging your gear on the phone stand? You could've spent that time on your retirement project, AKA your "component" stand.

Sorry if I'm holding your feet to fire, but it's for your own good. The current setup just isn't very feng shui...

As for the phone stand? Well, call me crazy, but you could try putting your phone on it....;)

Great job. I had no idea that it was something like this serving as your rack! The bench's finish looks particularly nice. And the piece itself looks very unique, charming, a conversation piece. I have a neat looking piece of furniture next to the front door, and it's convenient for anyone to sit there to put on or remove shoes (as I ask that of my guests). Maybe next to your entrance, space permitting? Drawer can serve to hold various keys, notes, or something . . . oh yeah, and a phone, hehe, cordless? Yeah, I agree with GN, use it as it was intended . . . ?

Wall Mounting of a BR1

Yeah, I agree with GN, use it as it was intended . . . ?
Space is pretty tight in Condoland.
As soon as I get a rack to use as it was intended the telephone table hits the bricks.
I'll try to find a good home for it.

All that floundering about wire and gauge was about this.

Got the BJC bananas on the speaker side. I got to thinking about Greg saying the GLS ones won't lock and thought maybe the problem was too heavy a gauge of wire keeping the set screws from setting past the threaded barrel making it impossible to screw it into a locked position. They might very well be the same product. Anyway here it is.

I screwed up the golden ratio thing in sizing that Mahogany wall plate. It took me forever to make that thing yesterday. I only got a coat of natural stain on it ... no finish and today it has taken me up until now to mount that one. The other one is ready to go ... still gotta make up the wires though ... but I'm sick and I don't wanna.

These are the home made binding posts. That Mahogany is 2" thick. The back has been mortised out to allow room for the blade connectors to be recessed. Eddie did all that with a drill press and made up some Mahogany plugs for the bung holes ...

*(waits for it...)* :D

Hm. Do you guys use BJC speaker wire, and if you do, did you twist the ends even when using the plugs? I wonder if by being twisted there are dips/bumps where it makes it harder to pull out. Then I wonder what gauge we are all talking about. I have Mono and BJC 12 AWG with my Unique plugs. (BJC came straight, and Mono came pre twisted, IIRC.)

If you didn't state that the mahogany was 2", I wouldn't have understood how large those things are. Very interesting design of mounting plates!

This particular wire has a gauge of 13.5 and that's not enough to get a good bite with those set screws so I added a twisted in a an additional piece of stranded copper. All I really cared about was the shiny black jacket. I know ... I'm a little embarrassed for myself too.

I put a 3/8" round over on it so to ease the edge but they are 9-1/4" X 14-3/4" which is similar in size to the speaker. If I had it to do over I would have had the top of the Mahogany plane out with the top of the speaker.

Very interesting design of mounting plates!
Thanks ... I think. To me a perfect room would have 3/4" plywood in between the drywall and studs so you could mount anything anywhere. I had fun designing these because of the speaker outputs. On any other site I would be telling you what the Mahogany and shiny black speaker wire jacket do for the tubular dielectrics. You can almost hear the rain forest dieing.

The wall mount and wires look great, Alex. But, if you're neglecting that component stand just to spite me.....well....stop it!:D

Speaking of component stands ...

With Photobucket being down for the last little while I had a chance to really think about what the pic's I was wanting to post looked like. I spent entirely too much time trying to get these right only to realize that you can loose your mind with this. Still ... it got me this far wire management wise.

I notice everything is skewed to the right. It seems I'm finally having an effect on you.

I noticed that as well. However, my impression is that it doesn't look stable. Centre placement would put everything in equilibrium.

I wasn't going to do this but ... zebras and stripes.

The gear looked like this but I wanted to clean it up some.

The room looked like this but I wanted to clean that up too.

You know ... a little wire management, remove the pictures above the speakers, relocate the router and modem and pretty much anything else I could come up with to make it a better picture. As soon as I pulled the sub out of the corner I was compelled to remove the plate amp for a look see.

What's that 120Hz thing about on the back of the driver?

Anyway that made me dig out the you know what ...

... thankfully it's my last roll and I hope to never see anymore ever again ... but it does drive down the resonant frequency of the box and lower frequencies take more energy to excite which when compounded with the fact that they are harder for humans to hear makes for a box whose resonance is less audible to humans. Somebody correct me if I'm off base here. So I'm going to quickly cut up the rest of the P&S to install in the box. At a later date I'll take the whole thing down to Eddies and throw some real bracing in there. I wanna get every last bit of performance I can out of my $36 investment.

So the bottom line is that it looks like a bomb went off in there ... again.

Better get crackin'.
