IMO, it will have no value for two reasons:

1. It requires someone to click on the 'add to reputation' button. So I guess if you are relatively new to a/v and ask a question and have it answered, you might feel thankful and click on the reputation button. But, most people will just say 'thanks' in the thread and/or followup with more questions. On the flip side, a poster might click on the add to reputation button because they think they got valuable/correct information, when in fact they did not. Thus inflating the reputation of a poster that might not deserve it.

[I can see it now, someone will ask a question about jitter and get totally bogus and unfactual information, yet 'reward' the poster of said info with an increase in reputation].

2. Because there is a divide between the 'subjectivists' and the 'objectivists', there is no way someone firmly on the side of the subjectivists (say Miklorsmith) is going to add to the reputation of someone that is firmly on the side of the objectivists (say MDS, mtrycrafts, WmAx, etc). It's a natural divide. I have a technical background and consequently only participate in those types of threads (although I may occasionally way in on more general topics). I wouldn't expect someone who doesn't want to hear the technical details of how things really work to add to my reputation (nor do I care).

Over time, regular posters learn who knows what and that is how your reputation grows. Little green squares are meaningless.

I agree. :)

And I also submitted a positive vote for your reputation. :D

Well, they're still fun and cute, however meaningless they are.

Huh. So, let's just say, uhm... theoretically... that someone ensures that the overwhelming majority of their posts consist of detailed and objective data backed up/verified by credible references[to insure high quality of information]: would this be reflected in this poll that is supposed to be represenative of the quality of information given by said person? Or is this just, at it's core, a silly 'popularity contest'?

-Chris
Totally agree with WmAx, MDS and the others. It really just comes down to a popularity contest. Now give me a positive rep, and I'll give you one back my friend. However, just the opposite. Some people who have very technical knowledge but show more downsides or a different opinion will be rewarded with a neg rep. When their information is totally factual, but the previous poster does not see eye to eye. At least not until the factual poster has gotten his (or her) point across.

Small example. Is Bmxtrix and myself. I know he is very knowledgable, but for some reason we almost always disagree. Nothing against him at all. Just he see's stuff being done one way, I see it another. But he does seem to give good advice either way.

Mainly for the above statement, and most would disagree with me. I by chance (and I am no means alone) like 4:3 material. Over the majority of the people here who like 16:9. So does that mean because I like something different, that a person in spite will go ahead and leave a negative rep.

BTW, I have given out to many positives today. And I must wait 24 hours before doing so again. I would have given you all positives, because all of you made a valid point.

Now give me some positives

An ode to little green squares

This is an ode to little green squares,
Of late they've been getting quite a few stares.

First there's Jaxvon, he's so cool
Then there's that Spambot; the Mule. ;)

Alandamp, he's my mate, :)
One of these days, I'll visit his State.

HookedOnSound, he's no Eskimo,
Jumping into his car he shouts to his pack "go, go, go"!

Clint DeBoer, "he should be listened to",
With 11 green squares, he's much more clever than me or you.

Steve1000, he don't like them!
Through clever little rhymes he subtly states; he don't like them!

WmAx thinks they're theoretically psycologically unserious,
Never mind that; just answer my question in 'Beginners and Audiophytes' you evil genius!

Mtrycrafts is an Audioholic Samurai,
I'm truly happy to see that he's not said, to me, goodbye. :)

MDS thinks little green squares have no value,
Seems to me though, that that's a subjective view. :D

Brian32672 prefers 4:3
What can I say, he probably walks around saying 'I want to be a tree'! :p

As you can see, it seems there's a lot to these squares,
But come on, get a grip folks, who honestly cares?!

Regards

Class President

I think Takeereasy and Duffinator are running for Class President! ;)

Why is Mr. Nomas "OPRA"? Did he give away some Pontiac vehicles lately?

I've got to read some of Plhart's threads. He's been on a leave of absence since March. Lots of little green chiclets next to his name.

Scenaria has only spent 3 days with a whopping 10 posts at the forum. Should we elect a new moderator? Too many chiclets FWIW.

Regarding Sir Nomas...

It's because of the editorial he wrote. He started as just a post on a forum, and Clint said that if Nomas wrote it, he had a job writing editorials here. Here's a link to it...

Wow, Mr. Nomas. You da man. I don't know how I missed that one. And to think you were just the speaker guy swallowing your kid to me. New found respect. I'll give you some extra chiclets. :)

No, thanks for the heads up. Wonder how you get red chiclets? The last several posts from those guys weren't all that bad.

PS, I don't think anyone's going to change all Clint's chiclets. He gave himself several thousand. (He can, he provides the funds to run this camp :) )

That's precisely the reason I have trouble trusting him. I mean, what kind of person feeds his own child to a subwoofer?! The humanity! Of course, if his sub eats children, it must have some starting power....hmmm....I'm surprised no one has started sacrificing small animals to the Audio Gods to make their system sound better.

Who doesn't like green?

I'm pretty new at AH. All I can say is I'm proud to have a green chicklet and be off to a good start. Say, Clint, while your handing out points how about throwing a few extras to a fellow S Carolinian? :D

To clarify, I wasn't sacrificing my child to my sub, I upgraded to an Axiom EP500 and my old klh POS was taking it out on the only thing in the house nearly as small as it. I think it is just angry that I've left it in the front room as a speaker stand and I don't even have it plugged in. So far, I've had a couple of priests over but it still won't hit below 45hz. That's right, true believers, it's bonfire time!!!! I've also got some old B[l]ose 201's in the corner that are fodder for the fire as well. And some people complain about their first system.

Doh!! I'm going to lose reputation just for admitting that I once owned B[l]ose!

Humm, after seeing the user cp, you can find the posts that were given a positive and or a negative. Also if someone leaves a remark you will also be able to see this. I have checked mine, and clearly I am getting negatives for someones spite that did not like my post. I mean the posts were quite simple and stated nothing in particular. Yet somebody decided that hey I'll give a negative. Now after seeing this. Someone with a decent rep, can easily be ganged up on. Say perhaps Clint... Granted with 1400 positives, it would take about everybody to gang up on him. But clearly some of the other posters who started out well with 3 chicklets, could be taken down..... At this point I would say go ahead and start me at -10 so I have a red dot, and I have to work my way up, so I have friends here. Humm, yea thats it - friends.......

I didn't know about being able to view a summary in User CP, but now that I do; yeah, I know what you mean. I also have a negative vote. Accompanying it is the comment "U are confused". Upon reflection, I agree that my post was perhaps a little harsh, although in my defence; I only meant it as a joke. But to my accuser, as to being confused; I think not. I knew full well what I was talking about.

It is extremely unlikely that I will give any person a negative vote.
