History shows that the main thrust of the modern day Republican ideology rests on whittling down the power of the federal/state/local government(s) to the bare minimum, except for the presidency.
And in some cases I agree. Too many times an agency is created and self-perpetuates to an unnatural degree, even after it isn't needed anymore and becomes a source of pork-barrel largess for both parties, even some Republicans.
At the same time, some agencies like the EPA, FDA, etc., agencies that provide protection for consumers ... us ... have been neutered to serve big business interests (coal, banking, schools, etc.).
