Delayed

Rumor has it this unit has been delayed until late October/November. Not sure the reason- it was originally scheduled for August as far as I know.

I ordered one early this week and was told that it could take "a month" for me to receive mine due to the enormous backlog...

Are you talking about the Integra 9.8? If so, several people already have them. But current and future orders are in question as to when they will arrive. There's an AVS forum member who says he has confirmation that his will arrive this coming Thursday.

Where did you hear the October/November rumor at?

Not yet! I was patiently waiting but now I'm perturbed by all the delays. Mines been on order for over a month!
I know how you feel - I ordered mine about two weeks ago and was told it could take "a month" but no guarantee since only 25% of the back log from Integra had been shipped at that point.

I am number one on my dealer's "wait list" so I really hope the Integra 9.8 starts shipping in higher volume soon...

I ordered mine a few days after the specs were leaked. I've been waiting since mid-July. I received a email from my dealer today which said, "Two weeks". AGAIN! I'm very patient but only to a point. Did Integra make twenty 9.8's worldwide? When the Denon AVR-3805 first hit the market, it was hard to get but I had one 3 hours after I made my first call. This is rediculous.

Originally ordered mine on August 29th and just got it this week - I plan on hooking it up later today.

All I need now is the Pio Elite 95HD ( should have hopefully this week ) and will be enjoying DTS-HD Master Audio :)

I'm jealous! I ordered mine the first week in August and still haven't heard hide nor hair of when it will arrive.

Pre-Amp Upgrade Path

Hi new here this is my first post so I hoep this is OK. This Integra 9.8 looks like the perfect upgrade path for me, but reading here has opened some doubts.

I currently have a Denon AVP-A1 Pre-amp hooked up to a POA-T2 & POA-T3. I would like to just replace the AVP-A1 with something supporting HDMI 1.3 (x4 at least) and the latest sound codecs i.e. TrueHD and DTS-HD as I am planning on jumping into the HD format war shortly. Have ordered about 26 Blu-Ray discs, and was thinking of getting a US PS3, but not sure if this will be a suitable match on the Audio side (might be better off with a dedicated player to output the audio pre-decode and converted to analogue, mind you if I do that then this Integra upgrade can be delayed).

Any advice or alternative solitions on the Pre-Amp solution?

Looking for single room Cinema solution, Balanced line is not needed, currently 5.1 but could look at 7.1 for future.

btw, living in Switzerland (Europe).

I have no complaints about The 9.8. It is a stud performer!

Ditto, It is a very nice unit!

I think you should look into a stand alone Blu-ray player vs. getting a PS3 since it can't decode DTS-HD Master yet, nor can it bitstream them. The Panasonic DMP-BD30 would make a nice combo w/ the 9.8, the Panny can bitstream the new audio formats to the 9.8. I must say once you hear them you will be in for a treat. :)

The whole xlr row of inputs would be a waste for me........
It's a big deal for those who like very loud home theater and/or have big rooms, and therefore are running large pro amplifiers (many of which only have XLR connectors). When you get into preamps, having those XLR connectors widens their market of potential buyers.

Well, if we ran a poll here on Audioholics to see how many of us need XLR connections in our HT rigs, I wonder what the results would show?

Easy, no need to roll your eyes. No doubt it would be a low number, but this forum doesn't really represent that section of the market. Go to the CEDIA or CES show and you'd find installers looking for that type of product for large, dedicated, home theaters. That's all I'm saying. :)

But even for people on this forum, those that run those Behringer Feedback Destroyers could run XLR out into the Behringer to theirs subs. At the very least it's not a negative to have the XLRs. ;)

What does "balanced" XLRs do over RCA preouts?

What does "balanced" XLRs do over RCA preouts?
Balanced cables cancel noise induced into them because they have both a positive and negative, instead of a positive and ground. Anything induced into the positive, gets induced into the negative, and so the noise gets cancelled when it reaches the balanced equipment. In short, it puts the noise out of phase with itself and therefore cancels it all together. With rca's, induced noise will get amplified downstream.

For long cable runs, balanced connections become benefitial. Some audiophile types swear that balanced connections help the sound quality (soundstage, clarity, etc.), even on short runs, but I honestly don't have a good enough ear to tell the difference.

Secrets Review of the Integra DTC-9.8!

So how does all this technology sound in practice?

"Amazing. I can hardly express how happy I am with the sound of this unit. For those of you who have ever sat though a professional demo in a controlled environment, you know the feeling when the hair on the back of your neck stands up, and you think, "I wish my home setup was this good!" The Integra DTC-9.8 can help get you there."
