The head of security quit and they were seriously unprepared- their performance doesn't show anyone that they had a clue. If they had handled it well and Trump or someone had fired them for going against orders, it wouldn't go well for those who fired them, in court. They would have done what needed to be done but that didn't happen. It got out of hand, terribly. If security had been adequate, nobody would have gotten in.
I honestly think many in law enforcement are pro trump to the point of dereliction of duty on a phone call basis...i.e. Does anybody now doubt trump might have called the chief and said "take it easy on my protesters".. After the Ukraine call and the multiple Georgia calls how could one not assume that's his " strong arm" go to...

I'd be very interested to see what the actual percentage is.

Just from what my father-in-law tells me most of his folks are in the conservative camp. Some are very pro Trump too. I try to talk sense into him, but it's difficult. Might not be after this week though.

He did mention one specific guy that's quite left (for TX) and my FIL did realize talking to me and him that he's pretty left on a LOT of issues since he's seen so much in 40 years of law enforcement.

I wonder if it's just because Trump "seems" pro-police or if it's their mindset that makes so many of them anti left? Maybe because lots of the left is saying the "defund the police" line so loud?

Why would the police not support Trump and Republicans?? The left has demonized law enforcement for all of 2020. Defund the police!!!! I can’t imagine why the police might support Trump or and the very least not be excited about the left.

Law enforcement has invited a lot of the criticism directed their way. A thinking cop would actually look into what "defund the police" really means. It's just a small minority that mean the phrase in its most literal sense. Most people saying it mean resources should be directed where they are most efficiently utilized. For example, more support for mental health care that could reduce police involvement in that area.

Studies have shown that policing attracts a disproportionate number of authoritarian personalities, which makes "law and order" rhetoric attractive.

I think most law enforcement is a little anti left to start but, and this is scary to me, trump successfully brainwashed millions of not very intuitive folks into a cult of far right radical politics... We were literally about one 2 year election cycle away from losing the democracy.. Now comes the job of deprogramming a huge swath of the population... As far as law enforcement in general i tend to think that now we have a problem in that a good many are now part of the cult...this is not to say that all trump voters are cultists , far from it , many are just old school Republicans that fear dems...

The problem with taking funds from the police is that it gives criminals a real green light- In Milwaukee, carjackings, auto theft, armed robberies, shootings and other violent crimes have skyrocketed- New Year's Eve sounded like a damn battle zone and, while the fireworks woke me from a sound sleep, the gunfire didn't help me fall asleep again.

I have been told that police recruits fall into two basic categories angels who want to save the world and others, who are one or two bad decisions away from going to prison.

If anyone thinks current right wing politics include law and order (period) are real they are part of the problem.. The real right wing policy ( and has been for decades ) is create laws , like zero tolerance drug laws of the 80s and anti immigration law of the 21st century to warehouse minorities and keep "real " Americans from having to compete equally...

Never said it was not dereliction of duty. They should not let it impact there job performance. I agree on that.

I cringe when I hear President Elect Biden highlight racial disparities, not because they don’t exist, but because I think it will push some people away. I would say enact policies, but spare me the speeches.

Agreed .. Back when i was a caddie i petitioned the USGA for use of a cart in one of their national championship tournaments ( publinx), i have a moderate case of cerebral palsy ....to make a long story short , i eventually succeeded via a media storm in favor , but in my personal life i suffered quite a few set backs and was accused of being self serving glory seeker..well i guess i might have been in some very small way, in the same vein as a Jackie Robinson or Rosa Parks.. It certainly wasn't about the glory , it was about access to the life / wages that others have....

That's the part that confuses me. Where's the law and order with storming one of the most important buildings in the country?

I like to say that, “ Republicans are all for law and order, as long as they make the laws and get to order other people around. “

Don’t act like this is brand new. The police have been demonizing Black people since their inception.

I took Jeff’s reminder to heart today. I turned off the television, played some music, highlighted by Bill Evans Live, the verve recordings, circa 1961.
