A: We are looking to purchase a new rear projection television. For the holiday, mostly little things for the family, nothing big.

I'm looking at a 37 to 40 LCD TV for my home theater. Currently looking at Samsung, Sharp, and Sony. This will occur around the hilodays.

Spending Spree

Two TV’s, two DVD players and one toaster (not sure is the latter meets the description of an electronic investment; but I thought I’d include it because it runs on electricity and I expect to keep it for 10 years or more).

Televisions: I am incessantly wrestling with the differences in competing technology. Given that I will be purchasing two televisions, I have decided to balance the cost and performance with the purchase of a 50 inch rear projection LCD for the family room and 42 inch plasma for the bedroom. I’m narrowing down the choices, but I’m still several reviews away from a final decision.

DVD Players: For the family room (mated to the rear projection LCD) I am considering a DVD player that provides similar features to the Denon DVD-5910 or 3910 but at a price in the $1,000 range. For the bedroom (mated to the plasma) I’m considering several competing progressive scan players in the sub $500 range.

Toaster: I like toast and I need a toaster that has a minimum of four toasting shades. Auto shutoff a plus to avoid a repeat of my current circumstances.
