Finish I like

I like a nice finishe that matches the furniture in the room. I want it to be rich and look like fine wood with some depth to the finish.

My favorite finish would definitely be a slightly dull black. I think that black is a slick color that can fit in with many different room environments. It has more versatility if the wife up and decides to change the curtains and carpet.

It depends on the room and it's decor. To me the most flexible choice is black, preferably piano black

Piano black, like the quad 11L. I hope av123.com comes up with a dedicated center channel to go along with the x-ls bookshelf's. Maybe a cool 2.5 x-over like the acoustic energy aelite center (very clear)

I currently have black ash finish on my speakers and I like them a lot. BUT, on my first DIY speaker I have the baffle as a flat black and the rest of the enclosure is natural.

I kind of like this too. I am still debating if I should keep it black baffle with the rest of the enclosure natural or do the all black look.

In the end I think I like the black the best because the speakers blend in and you can just focus on the sound.

Dark woods, stained to match the decor. Smooth/gloss surface, though, not the rough matte on faux woods and cheap veneers.

Gloss black. you can use it with pretty much any room style without it being ugly. wood finishes are very tasteful but only when they match the decor of the room.

Black is my favorite color and it matches everything in my living room. For speakers I like a black grain wood that does not show fingerprints and dust as easily as a high gloss black.

Black - because I think it's really the only universal color. Oak is out of style I think right now, and other finishes are customer specific.

I would choose a dark natural wood finish, not glossy, but in the end, the wife
would have the final say.

Like cars, houses, electronics and many other things, I like what goes best with the design aesthetics of that product. Some cars for example look great in white, others don't. Then too, I think it's nice to match your speakers' and other furniture finish to your decor if possible, so it can vary.

Of course rectangular boxes can look good in a variety of finishes, so all else being equal I suppose I'd choose either a nice rich polished wood veneer or piano glossy black. Any finish polished to a nice shine can look classy. (I also really like that nice light wood finish on the X-LS, though I'd prefer to have some black grilles on there... Pretty easy to please I guess I am )

Why my favorite finish on a speaker is light and natural in color.

For one thing you do not see dust. Not that I am a slob and let the dust pile up so someone can write with their finger, Dust Me! I live in a part of the country where the wind blows freely and dust is in surplus amounts. I could make a career out of dusting. I do own Black gloss piano finish speakers and they are too noticable and so is the dust for me. Light, natural speakers for the most part would blend more easily in my decor. I should also mention that I also have been spot repairing and restoring finishes for over 31 years. This is my career. I know that I myself tip toe around these speakers because of how easy it is to damage the finish. These gloss finishes once damaged are difficult to repair. Dull finishes are easier to repair.

Speaker Finish

I would choose Gloss Black just because it will blend better into a room. I am embarrased to tell you the age of my current speakers They are cheap huge boxes with 14" woofers. The came in a walnut finish which I thought was so cool at the time . It wasn't long before they became high gloss black using a paint brush

Contest Question: What is your favorite finish on a loudspeaker and why?

My wife is an interior designer, and she prefers the lighter wood finishes, such as beech and maple, to match the decor in our house. She prefers these to the black or darker wood finishes, and she has no stomach for the modernistic designs.

What Finish.....

I feel that the finish of a speaker is even more subjective than the sound of a spreaker. The reason being that, it is what you SEE even when the speaker is not being used. And although many may not admit it, we like our system to LOOK as good as it SOUNDS! This aspect is multiplied 10 fold when you throw in the WAF into the equation. If I had to pick one finish it would be Medium Cherry eventhough High Gloss Black is a close 2nd.

I like oiled Oak, If Oak is out of style someone should inform the funiture industry. Black IS more flexible because it is so hard to match woods from different manufacturers of funiture. It would be great if there was a naked wood that you could stain to your preference.
