Color Preference

I prefer flat black because that is what the rest of my system is made of and its easier to get different components/speakers from different manufacturers to color match. Also black fits in almost any decor. The exception to black is where there is a large subwoofer, in that case I prefer it to match room color which is sand (i.e. light color maple wood ).

Cherry, it matches the rest of the room. Your Maple finish looks cool.

I like a light wood finish because it goes better with the contemporary style furniture in my home.

At the moment, I'd prefer a dark cherry, or some other wood that has a reddish hue to it. I'm just tired of black, black, black, & a dark wood finish seems so 'upscale' to me.

A hard gloss black finish that won't scratch and swirl. It just fits into any decor very easily, and looks classy as well. I love different types of wood finishes (Cherry, Mahogany, Walnut, etc), but those are too dependent on the surrounding room and furniture.

Black Stain / Dark Brown Rub

I like my speakers to feel organic and not these gigantic monoliths that stound out in the room. I like a rubbed black /dark brown finish where you can see the wood grain through the stain.

Piano Black. Glossy. Sleek. The prettiest speakers, within a reasonable budget, that I have ever seen were Earthquake's Platine Noiree. Very nice looking.

So how many "names" do you think the average forummember uses to try and win these things?

I like speaker finishes that blend into a room rather than stand out. Piano black is probably the best all-around finish (IMO), because it looks great and matches any environment.

Speaker Color

My personal taste would be gloss piano blacak ,but being married there always seems to be a happy middle ground. so I would have to say a color that would blend in with the rooms theme .So fo me at this point would be like a rose colored oak in paint or vaneer .:D

I don't have a favorite finish. Speakers, like any other furnishing in a room, should blend in with that specific decor. What I do look for is a variety of finishes, so I can select my speakers based on performance, not whether they match the end tables.

My favorite finish would be cherry due to the fact that it matches my furniture.

Favorite Speaker Finish

I tend to prefer the darker woodgrain finishes, such as cherry or mahogany. Klipsch's cherry finish on their RF-5s/RF-7s is beautiful. Everybody makes black speakers, so I think that a dark natural woodgrain makes a speaker look classy.

I would say cherry, rosewood are common favorites. The rocket subwoofer from from av123 has an interesting color. Personally though I prefer a neutral color such as maple/oak that blends in with furniture and is light.
Hey, a glass subwoofer would be interesting, as well as a greeen one, but glass/clear subwoofers imagine that.

Finish options

Personally I like to see speakers offered in several finishes. Black is the industry standard, then a light wood and a darker wood. The current furniture trends are toward the maples and the cherrys. One important item to me is NO VINYL! If its a wood finish then I want a real wood veneer finish.

Thanks

Favorite finish on a loudspeaker and why

What is your favorite finish on a loudspeaker? Answer: Piano/gloss black. Why? Answer: Because black is traditional -- the de facto standard by which all other finishes are measured. Moreover, black is not only the norm among speaker finishes but also the epitamy of class and fashion in other, non-related domains. Social acceptability aside, black is also practical because it doesn't reflect light, which, in a home theater situation, might otherwise detract from the visual experience of an image on a TV screen in a dark room. Speakers should visually complement or blend in with their listening enviroment, and no color probably does that better than black.

Hope'in to Win thease Cool Speakers

I like the "Natural" finishes! The darker Wood finishes I feel look the best as they blend-in more with most folk's homes furnishings. The "Harder-Wood's" like Teek,Oak and the like are the best choice in terms of acoustic-quality,I'm told, as they have the least resonence/best physical qualities for true sound-reproduction/Music~A well finished wood with a good distinct grain-pattern,I think is Very attractive.

Well, all my speakers are finished in black, but that's mainly because it goes well with my media room's decor. But I've always been a fan of maple cabinets. I've seen some nice rooms finished with those. :)

I used to prefer black but...

I used to prefer black exclusively for speakers, whether it be matte black or glossy. I felt that speakers "should" be black to match the components of the HT system. After all, most components were black and the speakers were part of that system.

As I started decorating my new house with my wife, however, I started thinking that the speakers, especially tower speakers, should be considered a piece of furniture and match the decor of the room. Now, my feeling is speakers should be wood color (veneer or real) and come in a color that matches the other furniture.

I would have to say a black. Whenever I think of speakers, they automatically have to be black. That's the standard. I do, however, prefer a real wood, not a vinyl or gloss look.
