I prefer over the ear noise canceling phones, as I don't want to hear the outside when I'm working, working out or listening to AvRant! The over the ear means I don't have to listen to as much ambient noise as I would with in-ear. Plus, I can loan out OTE phones without getting grossed out. Lastly, I people can see OTE phones and realize I have better stuff to do than listen to them.

I prefer Over Ear Open because I often wear earphones at work and need to be aware of others and things going on.

I could use a nice home pair of Over Ear Enclosed to really enjoy my music at home.

Over Ear Open

I've just always preferred the comfort of open, over-ear headphones. I've never been able to wear in-ear very long, and over-ear, closed headphones just make me claustrophobic.

Don't like noise cancelling because they, well, cancel noise, and I'm never sure if the noise they're canceling is noise that's actually part of the music.

Its easy one for me - Studio Monitor (over ear) for Home late night listing mostly TV/Movies and in Ear (canal/Noise Blocking) for daily commute to work...

btw: tSC ROCKS!

Question

After using both, mainly over the ear headphones. I really really like in ear noise canceling. One of the main reasons is that they actually decrease noise for other people in the area. I am looking for a new pair because my current pair is on it's last legs.

I prefer IN EAR...for use with a portable music player. I primarily use headphones for this reason.

If I were to do more listening at home, I'd probably still go with IN EAR for the simple reason that bulky over the ear headphones were never comfortable for me.

I prefer Over Ear Enclosed overall.

That said, I frequently use a set of Shure sound isolating in-ear phones while travelling.

over the ear for me thanks

My choice in headphone style has always been over the ear. I simply find them more comfortable and I feel they sound great enclosed or open. If I had to pick I would say over the ear enclosed is as good as it gets. I'm not such a big fan of noise canceling cans but then again I don't fly all that much either.

I prefer over the ear closed. Used to over the ear, can't get use to the feeling of in ear. Prefer closed for WAF.

Contest Question: What type of headphone do you prefer and why?

Over ear enclosed: Best blend of good sound and low interference from/with others.

That said, the over-the-ear noise-canceling earphone is one of the greatest inventions ever. I will not go on a plane flight without a pair. Even if I am not listening to music, just getting a break from the roar of the engines is priceless.

I also choose the "over ear enclosed". Just a great sound experience and not a bother to others.

over ear enclosed, for everything, they limit incoming noise, comfortable, and generally stay in position better then on ear.

Definately over the ear enclosed headphones, they provide better isolation in and out, so not everybody has to listen to the same thing I'm listening to, and I don't have to listen to the kids fighting....
