I prefer in-ear when I am listening to my Ipod because they are not very obvious. I don't currently use earphones for anything else.

Over ear enclosed. I can play at a volume I like without disturbing the Mrs...

Over the ear for me too. I prefer to shut out the outside noises and not disturb any one else at night. I've never tried the noise cancelling style.
This comes at a good time, I'll be looking for a new pair to replace my Sony's some time this year.

What type of headphone do I prefer?
An over-the-ear, noise-cancelling set is surely the best, both for comfort and practical use.

headphones

I prefer in ear headphones over all the other types listed. Primarily I'm listening to music on my mp3 player (not an ipod) and I often am listening while on the go or while working around the house---over the ear or on ear 'phones would just be in the way or too bulky. Right now I'm enjoying my shure e2c which aren't active noise-canceling but they fit so deep in my ear-canal that they block out almost everything, including my running lawnmower. I have used noise-canceling headphones and just didn't like the way they tweaked things so I steer clear of those now, however I do have a bluetooth set of on-ear headphones that I use to listen to baseball games or random shows if my wife and son are sleeping and I am going to up and about---close to 100 foot range is a big plus, but the sound is not as good as my shures.

I like Over Ear Open, or an in ear for smaller...buds never seem to fit.

I prefer an in ear headphone because if I am using headphones, I'm usually working out or doing some sort of activity that requires a lightweight headphone.

I personally prefer over the ear closed since they are extremely comfortable, and offer alot of noise isolation and dont give you the ear fatigue that i have felt with in ear types.

I personally prefer over ear closed. I don't like the pressure created by noise cancelling and while I can use in-ear headphones I like the comfort and how encompassing over ear closed headphones are.

That said, I really do need some good headphones. These cheesy iPhone buds just don't cut it...

I prefer in ear because with a good fit, it blocks all superfluous external noise and allows me to enjoy my music without any interference. I am also able to listen at lower volumes because of this, which is a great thing for my precious hearing. Additionally, my ears are huge, so I have never found a comfortable over-ear headphone.

Studio monitor headphones because they're most likely to provide accurate sound reproduction, and are over-ear to block out external noise.

I prefer over the ear open headphones because it provides the best sound IMO. If you're in a noisy environment, closed headphones would be my second choice.

Haven't tried them all...yet.

I've only tried over the ear enclosed, over the ear open, and lower priced ear buds that don't actually go into the ear canal. Of those three I prefer over the ear enclosed for listening in general, and ear buds for when I'm working out at the gym. That said I would like to try in ear some day and would also like to own a nice set of over the ear enclosed for walking/train/plane and general listening. To bad haven't gotten a raise in 4 years.

Headphones or Earbuds

I prefer noise cancelling or noise isolating in the ear phones because of their portability.

My preference would be "In Ear Noise Canceling".
I wear eye glasses and have never found a pair of over the ear head phones that were comfortable. Also the noise canceling works to keep home distractions at bay.
