1. Cost

2. I'm not sure. I'm still learning about all the different kinds of ways to set up systems.

Impact Acoustics Response

1: Quality and then Cost.

2: Signal quality over distances and it would be nice to know how well the cable can deal with severe bending.

Cost and durability are important.
They never or rarely tell me the statistics of the average audio consumer, such as how often they use stereo equipment or how often they come back within the warranty due to faulty equipment.

1. Cost, durability, looks (for applications where cables must be visible).
2. I just like to know R, L, C and gage. Some manufacturers give this and some don't.

To be eligible to win, you must: 1) Be a registered Audioholics forum member, 2) Have USA Residence 3) Answer the following questions in this contest thread.

Contest Questions:
  1. What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?
  2. What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?
Note this contest ends on March 31st, 2006. Winners will be drawn shortly thereafter

Have fun and good luck!

1. Cost the absolute biggest factor. Better stuff is going to be more expensive, yes, but if we can't afford it then how would we know?

2. What I usually wonder is bend measurment. If i have to bend the cable around a corner, will it be able to? Also, real world performance vs. lab tests. I'd like to know if there really was a difference between one brand or another.

1. Looks and Cost
2. Well in a perfect world I would love to sit and compare different brands and even the free cables that come with the products and see if there truly is a visible and audible difference thats what I want to KNOW! why are there no displays at any of the electronic stores like that for us to see.

1. cost, of course. the cheaper the better, BUT this is where looks come in. they cannot look cheaply made, they need to look & feel solid so that they do not come apart. i personally do not care for the "look cool" factor, they are just wires, spend the look cool money on something useful.
2. compare them to competitors, if the product is better then they will want to show it in a comparison. if they are all the same then just say "hey look at these wires, they will get any girl into bed with you, they have GOLD & girls love gold" *BLING* *BLING* :D

1. What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?
Cost and what kinds of reviews they get in a lot of the testing I read online.
2. What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?
How they stack up against the competition. They way to prove yourself is to show it.

What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?
I don't get too nutty with cable, just looking for good overall value (which does not translate into "cheap" in my book).

What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?
How much signal degradation there is for given lengths of cable.

(1) What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?
Manufacturer’s reputation and build quality are paramount. If a company is in the business of building a wide range of audio/video cables for more than ten years and has been successful, that plays a major role in my purchase. Regarding information, there is little that any reputable manufacturer leaves out for my requirements in specifications.

(2) What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?
Worst-case scenario examples, what would be the results if there were a miss-match of power, components, etc. while connecting their cables. Basically, real-world situations that have been encountered by novice users that have resulted in poor audio/video performance would be interesting reading.

1. I base my cable purchases on research performed on forums like these; consumers recommendations and thoroughly documented performance testing.

2. I'd like for manufacturers to show real world comparisions of their products against their competition.

1. Cost and quality. The price has to be reasonable.
2. Does size REALLY matter? Cummon now.

1. Quality and Cost is the first consideration. What does your companies cable offer that others do not!
2. What is the latest in cable design? Is there a new cable coming out in the near future that will be better than the one you are trying to sell me now.
Example- (Fiber Optics)

Price point vs. appearance is what I consider when buying cables. If a cable is priced right, looks right, than I will use it. Not too much difference in cables after you get away from the $1.99 un-shielded RCA's.

Cable manufacturers need to provide documented test results indicating measured impedance, resistance, and capacitance. Acceptable deviation from nominal would be nice to know, as well as DBS test results against similarly priced competitors, preferably conducted by a third party.

I want good quality cable that will get the best possible signal to where it is supposed to go... Also, it is nice to have cool looking cable for bragging rights *grin*, but it isn't as important as the quality of the product. Lastly, I don't go for the esoteric cables, as they are all hype. I don't want to pay TOO MUCH money for a cable, but reasonable prices for a good solid performer are OK.

It's always nice to see the cable specifications, and to know what kind of connectors are being used. I am not a huge spec geek, but the basics of shielding, termination type, etc will do it for me.

Thanks for the contest! The switcher looks very cool, BTW. It'll be great for hooking all my game systems up to the projector!!

1. What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?
Cost vs. performance, and measured performance at that. I want something to correspond with the law of diminishing marginal returns. I don't mind paying for something good, but there's no point in paying way more for an almost unnoticible improvement.

2. What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?
Real world performance difference between lines. Screen caps of video displays using different component video cables, etc. Let us decide if we think the improvement is worth the upgrade.

1. Cost and performance/reputation are my primary factors. I'm willing to pay more for a higher quality cable from a respected manufacturer.

2. I agree with what others said about a bend rating. That would be great info. Maximum run length would be great too.

As I have not been convinced of the need for varations in cable size vis-a-vis length, more in-depth details re advantages (and disadvantages) of the cable being offered. A cost benefit analysis would help as well.

FACTORS:

Cost, length v. gauge and oxygen content, metallic composition

WANT TO KNOW:

Are the cable's terminations listed? Are they also pictured? Will this cable function properly in a closed (behind wall) environment?
