1. What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?

Price, Cable Quality, Performance, Durability, and Customer Service.

2. What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?

I am not as concerned with all the technical stuff as I am with how will it enhance my experience. Also, why should I spend the money for it.

1) I think quality without crazy prices is important. I want to think I got my money's worth but not cheap.
2) I would like to know what types of cables are used in each one.

1) What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?

Performance (otherwise I'd just stick with the junk that comes with the components), cost, experience from other customers.

2) What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?

I'd love to know the profit margin for each cable in a given manufacturer's product line.

quality and price.

nothing really, just how well they work.

1) What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?

Cost. I want a good quality product that won't break the bank. I believe there is a point of diminishing returns with cable. I don't need nitrogen injected tips and pure 100% Purivian copper that drives the price up. Just a simple, shielded cable with OFC and quality craftsmanship.

2) What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?

What makes them stand out from other manufacturers? How much does it really cost to make a cable? (I make cables as part of my job, so I have an idea, but would still like to know) How much of the specs are just hype and how much are legitimately worthy details that will enhance quality?

Performance for value minus the snake oil.

I'd like to know how far you can bend the wire and the repsective loss for various bend degrees as well as the reccomended lenght for runs and if it's rates for behind wall installation.

1) Price and quaility are my primary concern.

2) I'd like to know why there is such a wide variation in prices among cables that seem to perform very similarly.

What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?

Cost, Quality, Performance (will I actually notice a real difference over other brands)

What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?

I'd like to see how long the lifespan of a cable is. Will I have to replace it in five years, ten, 50? Nothing lasts forever.

What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?

Number 1 is value. What do I get for my money? Having a pretty cables is not high on my list of value... but build quality and cost are.

What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?
I agree with most responses here. Detailed specs on attenuation over length in the audio range or video signal range is key. Also, capacitance and inductance specs would be helpful. I really wish cable manufactures would agree on a standardized characterization method.

1. When purchasing cables, I look for quality above all other factors (as I do with most things). Because many cable manufacturers often don't have the distribution or sales volume that some products have, name reconition and reviews also play an important role.

2. I would like to see more test data/benchmarking showing the performance of cables with respect to other similar products of various manufacturers.

1. Cost is always first for me. Then quality.
2. I just want to see some quality measurements on picture quality on various cables on long runs.

Cost is most important, and i try to keep it all in perspective. If i have a 300 dollar stereo reciever in my bedroom and it only gets used at very moderate volume and with cheap speakers, there really is no need at all to use premium cable. But i also wont buy the crap from RS either. I will always spend more on the interconnects than the actual speaker wire... always.

I think it would be important to know according to the level of the system; is this cable cost prohibitive, or should i really consider upgrading. Also, what is the maximum length that this cable is designed for while maintaining signal integrity...

1. What factors and information play a part in your cable purchasing decisions?

The value of the cable (cost vs quality)

2. What do you want to know that the manufacturers aren't telling you?

Well a common theme in many threads is how long the cable can be before performance degradation. Some information associated with each cable along these lines would be helpful.

1. As is most everyone...I'm concerned with cost and quality of the cables. But the deeper I go in this hobby, the more I look at visceral qualities, such as 'attractiveness'.

2. I'd really like to see benchmark specs and comparison testing results against competitors.

Good cheer.

Does it really do all that?

Q1. My needs, availability and cost.
Q2. What they don't know is usually what I need to know; salespeople and manufacturer's customer service are like walking brochures with no more knowledge. I do acknowledge that there is so much out there it's hard to say they are incompetent -- well, that depends.
