Not quite there...good knowledge it is.

I can do it all very comfortably but I've only been obsessed about A/V equipment and home theater for about five years so I don't think I can count myself an expert yet. Maybe in another ten years.

I learn a great deal from this site. I would never consider myself an expert, but I believe I know quite a bit more than your average joe. So, good knowledge would be my vote.

I picked Expert because....

.... the Poll says that the criteria is that you have to be able to set up and calibrate your system without using Automated Setup routines.
I do that about once a month on all three of my surround sound setups and about once a week at a friend's (all my friend's are scheduled in rotation).
The only thing I don't do is Grayscale calibration because I don't have the expensive equipment needed.:(

I reponded by saying that I am an expert based on the criteria listed. However, I do not believe that I am expert but have a good base of audio knowledge. I started out installing car audio systems to building my own home theater.

I said Expert because there's no stated definition for calibration. I can calibrate by ear and would have no problem calibrating correctly if I had a sound meter, but I don't.

Based on the criteria of setting up and manually calibrating a system I chose expert. However I do not consider myself one since I lack extensive installation experience, professional training and exposure to a wide variety of hardware. Technically I know what to do and have done it a couple times. Basically I gained knowledge from reading the forums and articles posted.

ignorance isn't always bliss

I can set up everything correctly, but I'm sure there's something I didn't do right yet, gotta re-read the manual

Almost good

My response was basic knowledge, since I'd hesitate to say I'm good at it. More to learn, always!

Experience

I consider myself quite the enthusiast, so I have attended ISF and HAA training and consider myself very knowledgeable, but I'm always learning more!

Thanks for the opportunity!!

I picked Expert since I can set up and calibrate systems without using automated setup features. I use a Radio Shack SPL meter and Sound & Vision Home Theater Tune-Up DVD to set up and subsequently tweak.

I said "Good Knowledge" because I prefer manual setup on everything to make sure the sound is "right".
If I'm not sure about something I'll figure it out by going to a user's manual or reading an article at a good audio website (like Audioholics).

I chose "Good Knowledge," as I can pretty well set up my own system the way I'd like it, and I have some knowledge about basic calibration. I have a friend who is ISF certified who has taught me much, both through advice on my system and helping him with his. I don't have the training to use the calibration equipment, meters etc, but I'm very technically proficient so I'm sure I could learn. So, all in all, good knowledge with an expert on call :)

I have set up a few systems, but there is still alot of stuff that I don't know. Most of it revolves around universal remotes, macro commands, and some of the more complex stuff involving ir blasters, rs-232 ports, etc. As for actually picking out, buying, installing, hooking up, and tweaking, I can do it all with minimal outside help.

I said "expert" in the poll.

I have enjoyed audio and electronics as a hobby since I was a teenager. And have always kept up with the newest things by reading everything I could get my hands on. (Yes, even the instructions for my equipment). But by no means do I claim to know everything, I just have a bit more than just a "good knowledge" of most electronics and can easily set up most things without instruction or help.

"Good Knowledge"

I know I'm certainly not an expert yet because although I can read and (usually) fully understand both equipment manuals and technical reviews on the first reading, I always seem to be left with several questions which require either tinkering with the equipment or digging for further information or elaboration.

In my experience, an expert is someone whose net output of information to others far exceeds what they take in. An true expert has an all-encompassing grasp of their area of expertise that allows them to constantly synthesize new concepts & ideas and recognize connections between previously disparate areas of their knowledge base. Another characteristic of experts is that they are consistently able to clearly explain complex comcepts to lay persons.

AV knowledge poll

I suppose I would have to say expert. I have been interested in audio as long as I can remember. I first encountered stereo while I was in college (and that was 40 years ago). Because of my interest in audio and later, video I became HAA certified for audio calibration and ISF certified for video calibration. If you are going to keep messing around with the stuff, you might as well have the equipment and knowledge to do it right. So far, it is not my full-time career but I would like very much for it to become full-time.

Aspiring Audiophile

I responded to the poll with a "good knowledge" vote largely due to the descriptions that accompanied each category and the process of elimination. As a lifelong audiophile, setting up and optimizing my A/V systems is no longer the big challenge it once was but with the ongoing advancements in AV gear, calling myself and expert seemed like too much of a stretch. There is always something new to learn it seems. On the other hand, as an electrical engineer by training, I could not live with myself if I didn't have enough knowledge to handle most home AV setups!

I feel comfortable setting up components, running wires ect however, I do tend to struggle a little with calibration.

I have been getting deeper and deeper into home theater in the past few years and after setting up 4-5 systems I feel that I can set it up as well as most of the so called pros out there

I chose basic. I can run wires and hook them up, but advanced setup requires multiple referrals to the owner's manual, and when the receiver is a Denon 3806 and the manual stinks, a call to Denon.
