I recall one of his posts some time back in a thread that's long since deleted where he spoke about how he was looking to get his company involved in some sort of project that Schifter was working on. I think he said something to the effect that the timing of the indictment was unfortunate and cryptically suggested that Schifter had access to some imminent funding which would enable AV451 to get back on its feet again. Undoubtably Dane was made privy to some correspondence from some lawyers out in California talking about a disbursement of funds from an Estate.
The funny thing is, this is the same letter, more or less, that Schifter was sending to everyone he owed monies to including I think his 'brother' Santiago. Each person thought they were the only recipient of this letter and each person was urged to keep the matter private and not share the contents with anyone. Now, while there really was an estate, and there really was going to be money doled out according to the courts, Schifter wasn't the only beneficiary. It turns out there were some others too and as fate would have it, Schifter had also borrowed money from the intended beneficiaries which had to be repaid to them out of his cut. While that still left a reasonable amount of money, beneficiaries of the estate weren't the only ones who found out about this matter and they in turn pressed their claims against what was left of Schifter's cut, effectively leaving him with not enough to buy toilet paper.
Dane, should consider himself lucky for not pressing forward more vigorously with his employer. As to why, even at this late stage, he could not figure out that Schifter was using him too, I don't know. Maybe he saw the glass as half full when he should've realized there was no glass at all.
