olddog Audioholic Nov 26, 2008 163 0 18 Jul 6, 2018 #1 I was trying to set up my X3300W with a ex amp for 2 chanel stereo listening on a seperate set of speakers Zone 2. When hooked up the sound is distorted like a blown speaker (speakers fine) So I hooked the ext amp up to the mains and same thing on another set of speakers. I have just had the Ext amp serviced and it works very clean on another system. All sound is clean using the internal amps on the Denon through all 7 chanels. Using the Zone 2 out and have front height set on the Denon. Checked all connections and changed out all I/C's. What am I missing??? Thanks for your time

olddog Audioholic Nov 26, 2008 163 0 18 Jul 6, 2018 #3 Yes after I tried it on Zone 2 I hooked it up to the mains to check if there was any diff. Nope. It is a just re-furbed Carver M-1.0t MKII Opt2 that I checked out on a pre on my bench and is working nominally with no issues. Thanks

Shouldn't be set for front height if you want to use it for the main L/R channels but I may not understand what you mean by set to front height....but if it sounds the same on the actual L/R preouts, I go back to thinking defective avr.

No volume was auto set to low and I had to raise the volume up. Low, very low can' t tell the distortion. Raise it to listen level and there it is.

You said it would do the same when you connected the ext. amp to the "main", presumably you meant main zone preouts such as FR, FL, in that case if has nothing to do with which zones. volume was auto set to low and I had to raise the volume up. What was the volume displayed when you could hear distortion? It may be possible that your external amp has low input sensitivity and your X3300W's output is muted. If in doubt, do a factory reset that takes a few seconds, then try again.
