Imo if you want to be in the svs ecosystem, the best value is the 3000 series. But the room is smallish, so to me, the PC4000 makes sense. the pc2000 pro is a great sub too, but considering self proclaimed bass maniac I think the mileage would be lower. Although with the smaller footprint and lower asking price, four would be pretty damn good.
That's pretty solid too. I steered away from SVS, the PB16 Ultra especially, because of price/performance compared to the Monos. With the money he saves not getting a prepro tho, splurging on a pair of PC4000s or going with four PC2000s is not a bad way to go at all! I think the cylinders are way cool and if I'd had the budget at the time I could have gone with PC4000s myself, in a heartbeat, and be super happy with them.

YeH I just don’t see the pb16 as having a lot of appeal. Sure, it’s solid, but in the big picture, it’s just not all that. My pc’s have been great, but I would definitely love to step up a bunch. I’ve been looking at everything from fv18’s and mono 215’s and even four custom architectural devs. Just not in a place to do anything yet.
However I do like spending other peoples money!!!

Generally to just use the avr and only add an amp if it really serves a purpose. Maybe even just a more powerful amp if you do go that way.
More than likely is what ill do since I have a decent AVR already ( AVR-X4200W 7.2 )

That's for sure what I'd do. The Denon 4000 series are pretty nice. Even if a few years old. You probably don't even need an amp, but I get wanting one. I'm in the same boat and got an amp just because I wanted an amp. Sometimes you just need an amp... :p

There are benefits tho. More headroom, cooler running avr, lots of power. It's not without its merits. I turn on eco mode and it makes my avr run way cooler. It'll prolly last me until I need a legit connection or format update and beyond.

I use eco with my amp too. I don’t sweat the heat thing. I mean it might be a factor, but the only AVR I’ve ever had fail was an Onkyo 808. It ran cooler than anything I ever owned, and it failed because of the hdmi debacle. Yes they fixed it too.

Haha!!! I made a rule in my house about phone speakers. NO!!!!! You can not use them, save for the random share. Bare minimum, use a BT speaker. If your ear buds aren’t comfortable, we will find some that are. IDGAF. No phone speakers. AND, of the four displays here, none of them make their own sound. All have AVR/soeakers. Sometimes they whine, but I don’t care. I’m not listening to craptastic phone speakers. I mean their music choices are bad enough. They don’t need help sounding worse! Lol

Well I'm going to have to tell a story.

I was watching TV in my office with my wife and had paused the TV to get up to do some random thing. I hear music playing from where I am in the house, but don't know what it's coming from since it sounded loud, but somehow far away at the same time. I could tell it was a tiny speaker, but we have a bunch of little google home speakers around the house so I figured the kids or her said something that made one of them play a song. Well, kids are all in bed so it wasn't them.

I go into my office to ask her what's up when I notice it's getting louder the closer I get. When I get to my office she's sitting on the couch listening to some song on her phone speaker. Now, this may not sound all that odd, but I looked at her and asked her what was wrong with playing it on something in my office? She looks confused.

I walk to my desk and pick up the two sets of head phones that just happen to be sitting there. I also look at the two speakers sitting on my desk. I then gesture to the 5.1.4 Atmos setup that WE WERE USING TO WATCH TV that she easily could have just cast the song to. But no, she doesn't do any of those things. I have taught this woman nothing.

There are 11 speakers in her line of sight from my couch, and she knows where the headphones are.

I think she might be trying to slowly drive me insane. It also might be working.

Thoughts are with you my friend!

That has such a ring a familiarity. Sad, but simultaneously hilarious!
