Listened to Dr 'F' on GMA this morning, spoke well IMO, even when little George tried to bait him on Trumpys tweets.
Why people can't latch on to the wearing of masks, social distancing and proper hand / hygiene maintenance, you could see it was frustrating him as well.

I am afraid to say that I think we are headed for a major catastrophe in the US right now. If we do not lock the country down hard now, I hate to think of the millions of citizens we stand to loose in the next few months.

We have done well in Minnesota, but now cases that we know about are on the rise.

This is an incident involving my granddaughter today.

Yesterday, my 17 year old granddaughter came down with symptoms highly suggestive of Covid 19, she is worse today with fever. We could not get her tested yesterday. Today CVS could not test her. He physician at Allina could not get her tested. Her father who is in charge of all Target buildings nation wide, was told that Target employee testing had no tests. I am a retired ICU physician and my wife is a retired cardiology/transplantation NP from Allina. Due to connections we were able to pull strings and get her tested. Allina initially told her to go to Wisconsin to get tested!
The delay for results is now 3 to 5 days were are told this could be longer.
A close contact in her apartment building recently flew to Philadelphia, and is due to fly back shortly.
I have told my daughter to tell all contacts to quarantine for 14 days. I have told the contact due to fly back shortly to on no account go to an airport and get on a plane.
If this situation can not be corrected promptly, then this state needs to lock down again hard now, or we will have a major disaster. We can NOT fly blind with cases on the rise.
I have notified the Minnesota State Health department and was appalled to find out they they did not know the situation on the ground.

Obviously the country is being lied to and we are all lambs to the slaughter now.

This country needs to lock down hard now, in all states. Planes need to be grounded ASAP.
We had our own scare with our 17 year old daughter a few weeks ago. One Thursday evening, she complained that her throat was really sore. The next morning, it was much worse. We called the public health line for advice and the nurse advised that we have her tested for COVID-19, which we did. Results were received 2 days later - negative. More testing...strep - came back negative. The third test was positive - for mononucleosis. Never thought I'd be happy that my kid contracted mono! The strange thing is that she must been infected while we were still on a provincial lockdown, so we don't have any idea were she could have been infected.

Anyway, the point is, there are still more bugs than COVID 19 floating around and hopefully your granddaughter has something less serious. Regardless, I wish her and the rest of your family all the best.

Let's all make an effort to keep this thread on the topic of corona virus. I started it in my post #2921 above. So I'll make the call to end it.

It's all too easy to start with SARS-CoV-2, COVID-19, and vaccines, – to transition to who should be blamed for the negligent inaction as the epidemic broke out – to outright partisan bickering.

How about that Tony Fauci? When he threw the honorary opening pitch to the shortened baseball season, he wore a Washington Nationals jersey with his name and number 19 on the back :). I hope no one needs to have that number explained.
You'd be surprised by the responses of people who disagree with this. Remember that Bush & D!ck were also responsible for the Dept. of Homeland Security and it's poorly defined powers and responsibilities that Trump & his minions have so misused. But, there I go again…
I think GWB is looking good, in retrospect, only compared with DJT. He was certainly unpopular in Canada after the invasion of Iraq. However, he had a sense of humour and was able to poke fun at himself. I remember when he once made a state visit here. During his speech at a state dinner, he spoke about his reception on arrival in the country - I can't recall it word-for-word, but this is the gist of it - "I was pleasantly surprised to see so many people lining the streets and waving...some even waved more than one finger!"

Masks aren't terrible to wear in cooler weather but when the temperature rises, they're not particularly comfortable. Some, like the woman who screamed about her breathing problems, well, you know......

People are soft. They can't tolerate any discomfort and are offended when someone tells them to suck it up. When a protester sits on the ground to scream and cry when Trump was elected (no, I don't want to argue about the definition or results of the election), what does that tell you?

The only thing missing was "Don't you know who I am???????????".

Soft? Perhaps she was just clear minded enough to see how Trump would handle a major crisis with deadly consequences, and now we know for sure. Many are weeping over lost ones these days with so many of those deaths preventable if only Trump had been just a fairly incompetent President.

70% DON'T wear masks? Yikes! Does your city mandate wearing them, or is it like where I live, where they passed a recommendation, without being an actual order?

More businesses are requiring masks and more people are complaining- I went to WalMart last week and it seemed that half of the people who were there had their masks below their noses.
The 70% would have been fair before stores like Walmart and Kroger have required them a week or so ago.
No my city has no rules about this that I have seen or heard. The governor is asking people to wear masks, but he does not allow mask requirements in the state. According to the State of Georgia (and apparently the governor has this legal authority in a public health crisis) it is illegal for any county or city to require masks! Georgia's governor, Brian Kemp, is suing Atlanta because the mayor of Atlanta announced a city-wide requirement to wear masks!
This has been national news - where have you been? I want to go there! :D

But then again, if 50% of people in Walmart where you are did not have their nose covered, that is not much better! I wonder if Walmart will start enforcing their rules? I know some stores have escorted people out.

That's the way it was here in Texas at the start Abbott would recommend but not REQUIRE masks to be worn

Boy did he sure change that tune when cases blew up all over the place now it's required

On a positive note and this may be a sign of mask requirements and also shutting bars and ceartin places back down but it's still too soon to tell

But here in San Antonio hospitilizations are starting to decrease for several days now

It's too soon to know for sure but I do suspect that the requirements are having an impact.

Personal responsibility is absolutely an issue here in the US. HOWEVER, when the president is saying dumb stuff about not wearing masks, then when the people on the medical side say they 100% should be wearing masks, it sends a mixed message to people. That gives them the excuse to not do it.

I don't get it and I know you don't either because we follow the guidelines. It's just too damn easy to wear a mask, but people go on facebook and see all these people saying that they don't need to and all that other misinformation out there, getting people to buy into a central message is very difficult. Especially when there really isn't a central message. That's where the personal responsibility comes in. People should be able to seed out the BS, but I guess they can't.

I just can't understand how a mask and a virus are political in any way.

Agreed, but we're not the only country with concerns, granted we have a clown at the helm and Germany a scientist, they continue to battle as well .............

This does not look good:

>>>In this cohort study including 100 patients recently recovered from COVID-19 identified from a COVID-19 test center, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging revealed cardiac involvement in 78 patients (78%) and ongoing myocardial inflammation in 60 patients (60%), which was independent of preexisting conditions, severity and overall course of the acute illness, and the time from the original diagnosis.<<<

Of the 100 patients in the study, 67 recovered at home.

This coincides with the reports that Red Sox starter Eduardo Rodriguez has myocarditis.

I find myself wondering what the long term health effects of this will be. I knew a guy who had rheumatic fever when he was younger and he never fully recovered. Eventually he passed away due to congestive heart failure.

No that does not look good. I can only say, the observation of cardiac involvement or myocardial inflammation is real and is of genuine concern.

I hate to be that guy who always reminds people about statistical methods and significance, or the lack of it. But, the way that study was designed, looking at 100 un-selected patients who recovered from COVID-19, means that the incidences of 78% patients with cardiac involvement, and 60% with myocardial inflammation, may or may not reflect what might exist if larger populations of COVID-19 patients are looked at. The authors may have overstated or underestimated things.

That's the reason why statisticians hammer away at MDs who do these kinds of studies. It's much more useful to find 100 patients who match up, as closely as possible, with regard to patient demographics, treatment, outcome, prior conditions, etc. It's more work to do that, and it takes many more patients just to find 100 who are eligible, but it's worth it because it allows much broader conclusions.

Still, this report does notify others that cardiac symptoms in COVID-19 patients are a large problem. Earlier awareness and/or treatment of these symptoms may lead to improved outcomes.

IMO, personal responsibility over personal freedom WRT wearing protective items if public health is concerned. It's just not that much of an infringement to be required to wear a mask unless the person has a legitimate problem doing that and in that case, they need to stay at home and avoid going to places where large numbers of people might gather. A lot of stores have curbside pickup and while I want to choose my own groceries, anything else that's not food isn't different enough that being picked by someone else would be a problem.

When people listen to a President about medical issues, they need to be shown that their thinking is a bit off. I still think he needs a muzzle.

I just want to point out the hypocrisy with this whole not wearing a mask thing. I see a lot of trumpers whining that masks are a violation of their civil rights. That mandating people wear them in public is a violation of the law. The same people complaining that gun control is violating their civil rights as gun owners. Here's the thing, when a trumper holds a sign in protest of wearing a mask that says, my body my rights ( I have seen this so it's a fact) or decides to share data collected from back in January stating that wearing a mask does not prevent one from infection they are simply showing hostile rebellion to keep with the party line and feel they are giving the middle finger to democrats. I see this daily on the governors safety tweets in my state. People are hostile, act like we are under a nazi regime, etc... all because they are asked to wear a mask "TO PROTECT OTHER PEOPLE". Trumpers see wearing a mask as caving in to democrats when in fact, it's scientists and doctors AND OTHER REPUBLICANS asking everyone to wear masks. Sorry most scientist and doctors are democrats, you are damn lucky. It's this whole trumper cult mentality and GED armchair experts that is the cause of America having massive rises in the spread of the virus while literally every single country in the world not infected with Trumpism has either completely tackled the virus already or are on a sharp decline.

Simply wearing masks will not prevent one from becoming infected, we already know this. In reality, it's meant to reduce the amount of vile you spew from your toxic mouths into the air and onto surfaces that could potentially infect someone else. You see trumper, you are asked to wear a mask to "slow" the spread by not getting your raving spittle on other people. It's a humanitarian thing. In fact, in can be considered a "pro-life" thing since many people of all ages and ethnicity have proven to die from it in massive numbers. It is NOT the flu regardless of what Fox News has told you. So as conservatives quit often sit on their pedestals preaching about being "pro-life" they are in fact pro-death. To protect the living children that are already born and breathing that are attending classes from being massacred with weapons designed for mass murder, that is pro-life. To protect immune compromised lung transplant or cancer survivors from potentially being infected with a deadly virus, that is pro-life. Not forcing schools and business to re-open in red zones where the pandemic is as it's worse all for the sake of poll numbers and money, that is pro-life. To allow women and couples the right to privacy of what they do with their own bodies and to not invade their wombs which is in direct violation of the whole "my body my rights" facade, that is pro-life. I get that conservatives have one single platform that they fight for, Abortion. Yes it's a horrible thing, no one likes the idea of it and it certainly can be a gruesome thought. Using disinformation, misguided ideals and exaggerating the time frame in which people have it done is the platform, much like any other conservative platform. However, it's still the mothers choice and no one else's so people need to mind their own business since real, living people walking the earth need that attention more. Conservatives spend way too much time worried about what other people are doing and things that are not even born yet than what they can do to contribute and help those living souls that it everyone's help for real. It's less productive to fight about abortion than it is to simply wear a damn mask and shut the hell up. Seriously, if people are going to protest and picket over wearing a mask... we have greater issues in American society that need addressed like education reform. But they will protest that too.
