I think Wallace was a wimp. After repeated outbursts, if I was the debate moderator I would have told Trump that either he can follow the debate rules and be polite or I would excuse him from further participation, ask him to leave, and I would give the balance of the time to Biden to use any way he chose.
While I agree with your sentiments, this still a democracy [edit: republic] ... by a thin margin right now ... and the 'outrage' by Republicans and the MAGA boys & girls would be unending and more trouble than it's worth.

Seriously, cut off their mic's when it's not their turn to speak. We can dub it the new Trump Rule, since they have no one to blame but him.

I'd volunteer. I'd pay my own airfare. I think we'd only have to stuff Trump's mouth. Biden was only acting like that so as not to appear to be a wimp.
I think it was more due to the fact that Biden was getting pissed that Trump couldn't shut his mouth and be respectful enough to let Biden finish a thought. I thought he showed a lot of restraint to not simply tell him to shut the f**k up. Granted, it would have been nice to hear Biden tear him a new one to humble him a bit, but it wouldn't have done any good. Not that anything last night did anyone any good.

Same with Wallace. They were both getting fed up with Trump. Hell, so was I.

I find it really weird that you still have add [edit: republic] when those insisting "we're not a democracy but a republic" are unable to comprehend that one can be both! Your northern neighbour Canada is a constitutional monarchy (and I was born in one, and live in another) and a democracy (both of them), and there are many other examples of this. So why does these people make that particular point? They want a fascist state?

Well we certainly have never been a true democracy, let alone the vast numbers who don't vote at all. Democratic republic is a better description in any case.

It is odd and we call ourselves a democracy quite often but I'm constantly getting upbraided by constitutional scholars around here & among the few republican friends I have left about it. So I thought I'd head them off at the pass.

The word 'exceptionalism', 'blessed' and 'unique' is often bandied about too.

A highly directional microphone should solve that problem. You can still hear Trump, of course, but his voice should be significantly muted.
And those directional mics tend to be fairly long, so they could beat him over the head with it from 6' away, which qualifies it as 'social distancing'. Using the kind with a parabolic reflector wouldn't be as satisfying.

Whatever you put in Trumps orifices must to comply with Hazardous Waste guidelines from EPA when you remove the fouled waste. I'm pretty sure that there are regulations for how you should protect yourself against hazardous waste.
Can't it be crammed in and his orifices taped shut? Maybe he could be dipped in Flex Seal.

What would you want us to tell people after you disappeared?

It sounds like we're all in agreement that a new type of Trump Rule needs to be instated for all future debates.

Somebody get the next moderator on the line! ... before he commits suicide. :D

France is a republic, currently the fifth one, and has a strong executive (sort of) similar to USA, but still a democracy. Finland is also a republic, but the president has weak powers similar (sort of) to the head of state in a constitutional monarchy, [edit: and of course also a democracy]

There are many forms of republics and democracies, so perhaps the constitutional [edit: scholars ] ought to widen their horizons a bit?

For the longest time I defended the Electoral College. Like our founding fathers I feared a dictatorship of the masses, like the French revolution of Robespierre and his ilk that followed over the years; National Socialism, Communism, call it what you may.

But I see now that it’s been perverted to serve one party or another to gain power in this country, along with gerrymandering and voter suppression.

It’s time to go back to the drawing board and revisit what it means to be a ‘true’ democracy, while protecting the rights of minorities.

I’ve stated this quite often but it bears repeating, the system is broken as is. Times have changed since the late 1700’s in a million ways. Culturally and scientifically, and information technology for all its benefits is also dividing us and enriching fewer and fewer of us, not to mention how it’s used as a propaganda tool by us and our enemies.

George Orwell’s 1984 isn’t a precautionary tale anymore, it’s slowly becoming reality.

A real concern of mine assuming Trump loses the election, is what that idiot is able to further screw up before the third week in January of next year .............

That will be very telling of what congress is really willing to let him get away with. Knowing he's lost, he'll do whatever he can to make things suck for Biden.

I've had the same thought. A lot of what he can do would be his decision alone, and other than a fast joint impeachment process to remove him, I don't think there's anything Congress could do. For example, he can raise tariffs with just a signature. He can also expel diplomats. I'm sure there is a long list of nefarious actions he could take.
