    720P DLP for $999!

Unless you're planning on an enormous screen, 11' should work fine- my H31 has the same zoom ratio and it placed at about that distance. Depends on the screen size, I guess (mine is 84"). YMMV.

    Trolling 201: Advanced Flooshing

BTW, it's not supposed to be work! Listening to speakers is the fun part.:D

    Trolling 201: Advanced Flooshing

And assuming you can figure out how to engage the front input! ;) Sorry, Vent- not trying to hijack your thread, but as the others have pointed out we've made copious suggestions. It's now up to you to do some listening & see what catches your ear.

    Trolling 201: Advanced Flooshing

You know, I really miss the days when you could grab an armload of CDs and head to any store to audition gear. 20 years ago even Best Buy would let you play your own CDs. Nowadays even the better, upscale-ish mass market places like Ultimate are set up with virtual jukeboxes filled with tunes...

    720P DLP for $999!

Yesss! I'd consider the Panny, although the Optoma is a near lead pipe cinch for me if it's true that it uses the same mounts, etc as my current H31. I think even the offset, etc is close. Hopefully I'll know more once you have a go at them!:D

    720P DLP for $999!

They're wrong about the 8 bit color- Optoma has verified that directly. The HD70 uses 10 bit color. I'll very likely be getting one shortly after they're released.:D

    Carada 100''Brilliant White Help

Cool. PJs can be a little work to get set up right, but once it's dialed in you can't beat the "theatrical experience" you get!:D

    720P DLP for $999!

Wow! Optoma has just broken the budget PJ market wide open with their new HD70! DarkChip2 technology is a bit shy of the DarkChip3 in black levels, but we're still talking HDMI & 720P for under $1k. Best of all, early reports are that it uses the same mount as the H31. If so, I'll be...

    Optoma H31, tv tuner HELP!

Hmmm...I've never used a VGA to S-Vid cable before. Does you Optoma recognize other inputs (DVD player via Component vid, etc)? Have you tried to connect a different componenet via the S-port to make sure it works? Have you checked to be sure 'Auto Signal Lock' is on? I think it's called...

I got some new (old) Infinity speakers....PICS!

I don't know that model, but the EMITs I've heard are stellar. The slightly later KAPPA series hold their own against almost everything I've ever heard.

what price do you tell your friends when they ask you how much your audio gears are?

Yeah, I'd rather watch the grass on the 'course grow than play golf. YMMV.:D

The Aperion is a fine sub, but at it's price there's a lot of competition. I'd strongly recommend you check into Hsu & SVS if you're prepared to spend $500 or more on a sub.

    Recommend a classical compilation

Do you have a tolerable sound system hooked up to your computer? If so I advise you to go to the Minnesota Public Radio website and click to listen online. I'm sure there's other good internet radio, but MPR is stellar and free. I can't think of any compilations off the top of my head because...

    The Original Star Wars Trilogy

They used an inferior print to create these DVDs. And I think it's inexcusable that they weren't anamorphic! If his goal was to come as close to the original theatrical release there's no justification for making them 4:3 letterboxed!

Need opinion on the floorstadings JBL HLS 620 and JBL HLS 820

BTW, they image just fine. They're not SOTA, but you wouldn't expect that at that price point. For bookshelf speakers the best imaging I've ever heard was from the Onix Reference 1's- they were eerie! Of course, they're about 5x the price of my old HLS610's. They were much better in...

Need opinion on the floorstadings JBL HLS 620 and JBL HLS 820

I had a pair of HLS 610s that I used for years with my PC. As a matter of fact, I just lent them to my parents last month, and they were blown away by how much of an improvement they were over the cheap Sony bookshelf speakers they'd been using. Those particular ones were raved in the audio...

Will Denon ever release another pre-pro?

I wouldn't need correction up to 40k- no one does! For that matter, I'd be delighted with the approach Meridian uses. They only do correction from (if I recall correctly) 250 hz and down, just the bass. That would be enough for me, but I'd be willing to experiment with it full range as TACT &...

Will Denon ever release another pre-pro?

Most of the speakers I've used are fairly benign loads. Although I suppose that doesn't mean those don't get nasty at some frequencies. In theory that's what you get an external amp for- to deal out massive power into any conceivable speaker load. I, too, am mightily impressed by my current...
