Need low end screen help- I'm torn.

You could buy a nice Da-lite pulldown and cut it out of the roller, then tack it into a homemade frame. Cheap & effective. Wrap the frame with velvet and you have a nice screen on the cheap.

    Stargate SG-1 cancelled!

The show blew chunks and even Creighton and Aeryn couldn't save it.;) Good riddence.:D

    Is this a good Deal?

I've been thinking of buying the Mitsubishi HC3000U; it's almost hard to imagine how it could get any cheaper. Still, if it's gonna it'll be after CEDIA. Even though 1080P digital PJs are around the corner, I'm probably going to get a decent 720P and live with it til the prices drop on the...

Need low end screen help- I'm torn.

I'd advise you to steer clear of a roll up Elite, too- I bought one and it's horrible. Terrible texture, discolored & very flimsy. It's really wavy, just a mess. All pull downs tend to wrinkle unless they're tensioned, and that adds a lot of expense. Da-lite's Matte finish screens are very...

When will we start seeing universal HiDef players?

When I buy a player, I don't want to think about or even know which format is "winning"! That's why I'm anxious for a universal. I have more DVD-As than SACD, even though SACD has sold more titles.

When will we start seeing universal HiDef players?

While neither format is off to a very big start, I'm already looking forward to getting a "universal" machine. Of course, as a long-time Denon fan I'm anxious for a Denon machine that will do DVD-A, SACD, Blu-Ray & HD-DVD. Upconversion to 720P/1080 would also be nice, while retaining all the...

    cheap screen?

Even someo of the tab tensioned ones will develope waves. I really dislike the pull down screens. I agree going with a fixed screen is better. Or alternatively you could buy an inexpensive pull down & mount it in a DIY frame. Cheap & effective.

    SPEAKERS with SILK DOME TWEETERS

The type of driver is secondary to how it's implemented; you can't automatically expect a certain type of sound just by looking at the driver complement of a speaker. And it's going to be difficult to make recommendations for speakers simply because 1) the sound I like may not be the sound you...

Help! I Can't get my video image to fit on the screen!

Sadly most sub-$2k DLP projectors have very limited zooms and usually lack lense shift. My Optoma has a 1.2:1 zoom and that's actually one of the better ones! That's really hard to swallow since budget LCD units routinely offer 2:1 zooms. Sounds like moving the PJ or moving the screen...

Focus on Apple iPod and Microsoft Zune

I wouldn't expect much difference as both are pretty large files. Probably MP3 would be a different matter. Perhaps the HD is energy efficient enough that it's not an issue.

DLP vs. LCD Specifically for Games

There's really no way to know if 'rainbows' will bother you; it isn't a matter of visual acuity. For all the hype only a relatively small percentage of people see them or are bothered by them, which is logical- otherwise, how could DLP have risen to dominate the market so thoroughly? Still...

Optoma H31, in the box stuff?

Well, I've ordered a lot of stuff from Amazon.com and had good luck. Still, maybe it's just a bias on my part, but I'd prefer to order from a company that specializes in the products they sell. I'd wager Amazon can't tell you anything about that PJ. Plus, they probably will just provide a...

DLP vs. LCD Specifically for Games

This is a side effect of SDE. As a general rule you'll find DLP is better in this regard than LCD. Ooops...I saw the "+/- $2k" and read it as your budget being $2,000. There's a wealth of great PJs for $5k!

DLP vs. LCD Specifically for Games

Overall, I'd say DLP will give you a bit better blacks, but that's a general fact, not an iron clad truism. Given your good level of light control, either technology should give you decent blacks. Much depends upon how far away you'll sit, the size of screen you want and what type of image...

Focus on Apple iPod and Microsoft Zune

Doesn't a HD-based portable suck down batteries like Ted Kennedy sucks down martinis when you use WAV./lossless files of large size? The memory buffer of those little players is generally pretty small which means files with large bitrates keep the HD spinning more or less continually, drainging...
