What you describe sounds like screen door effect, not the screen. Can you see the squares when the PJ is turned off?

Definately there'll be some sweet new PJs after CEDIA. One minor thing to keep in mind if you plan on waiting- the current gen of PJs are a known quantity, but if you are one of the first buyers of a new model its flaws and quirks will be unknown. For that reason it can be a good idea to wait...
