There is no "should" when it comes to setting your SPL levels. Only you can decide how loud you want it.

Sometimes DTS sounds better, but it is by no means guaranteed. I even have some DVDs where Dolby stereo is the better soundtrack (with DTS and DD both available.)

That depends. If the speakers are easy to drive and the volume is moderate, I am not sure that it would make any difference.

It is a simple 2.0 setup. The speakers are Boston VR2s. I have checked all the cable connections. The cables are Kimber PB4 (because I have them. I am no longer under the illusion that they are "better".:)) I have some generic 14 gauge I could try. Would a bad cable or connection cause the "on"...
