Back in the VCR days, it was a certain channel (typically ch2 or ch3) that one selected, rather than "VCR". How old is the TV? Maybe it works that way.

I have never used (or had any desire for) a sub with my BP10Bs or BP8Bs. They have the deepest, most powerful bass of any passive speakers under 5K that I have ever heard. (As well as deeper/more powerful bass than any powered sub under $500 that I have heard.)

I would recommend a direct-view CRT over either, if only they could be made bigger. If I replace mine, size will be the only reason, and it will be a step down in picture quality.

On rare occasions, I have sold older discs because the sound seems too quiet or "weak" by today's standards. Sometimes I replace an old disc with a remastered version, if the sound has really been improved (eg Alan Parsons.) They don't wear out. Now that I think about it, I suppose the majority...

Oh, absolutely. There are plenty of good reasons other than sound quality for buying a particular product.

Yes. Also, I don't only buy new ones, but get rid of old ones that are not "up to snuff" sometimes. This means that I have over 3,000 good CDs. (I have recently passed the 1,000 mark on DVDs as well.:))

I suppose that if the speakers are well away from walls, there would be an SPL below which room reflections would be inaudible. Standing waves probably become more significant at high SPLs, also.

Speakers are often described as above or below average for the price. I would call those JBls exactly average for the price.

I have an almost complete collection of all the Sabuda/Reinhart pop-up books (in mint or near-mint condition.) I love them. Those guys are geniuses.

If I could buy the sticks pre-loaded with cover art, lyrics, etc., that might be OK. I will never go for downloading, though. (I will also always have a CD player for the huge collection I own already.)

Interesting. My dad is a retired historian/professor who studied precisely that subject for many years. There is even an organization called "The Search for the Historical Jesus" of which he is a contributing member.:)
