    Andromeda Strain

I vaguely remember the original. I liked it as a kid, but then I liked almost anything with a science fiction element. My favorite scene was the "shower" that burned off a layer of skin.

    Crying, bawling during movies

The Remains of the Day made me cry. So did Harry and Tonto.

    Audio Industry Employment

Thanks, I will try. For me, the worst thing about work is simply being at work, as there are always things I would much rather be doing. I did enjoy my brief experience with freelancing (as a graphic artist), but it offered little or no security.

    Audio Industry Employment

I have never had a job that didn't suck, no matter how much I enjoyed it before it became a job. I think it is fair to say that work sucks as a matter of principle.

Who has a dedicated movie room; not full media room?

I haven't watched actual television in more than 10 years. If I want to watch a TV show, I get it on DVD. In that sense, my HT is movies only. (I also have a separate music-only system in another room.)

Hunt for Red October on BD..... FINALLY!!!

I would never watch any movie that often, no matter how much I liked it. It would quickly become boring. (I try to never watch a given movie or TV episode more than once per year.)

Bookshelf <$350 Shipped for Computer Use

I agree with studio monitors. The Behringers are great, as are the Alesis Monitor Ones. A big advantage is that they are designed for nearfield use.

    Ticks

Ticks have always been a problem here in Oklahoma. If one attaches to you, never pull it off, as the jaws can remain attached and become infected. Applying strong heat (like a soldering iron) or strong chemical (like a drop of bleach) will cause it to let go and drop off.

    Crying, bawling during movies

The correct term is "bawling" not "balling".:D

Hunt for Red October on BD..... FINALLY!!!

A great movie. No need for BD, though, as I enjoy it thoroughly on standard DVD.

    Headphone bliss

You should definitely check out something that uses Acoustic Holography or Qsound. Roger Waters' The Pros and Cons of Hitchhiking and Sting's The Soul Cages are great choices. Also, if do do a search online, you can find a few binaural recordings.

    Music Blu-ray coming!

I don't think that that is the only reason. I have had the opportunity to compare standard CD and SACD versions of the same recording on an excellent system. In 2-channel mode, there was simply no difference at all. This is not because SACD is not excellent, but rather because CD leaves no room...

The seductive appeal of loud music

There is a certain volume level that I like. Any quieter, and the music seems to lack a certain presence or fullness. Any louder, and it seems excessive. I don't know what this level is in terms of dB, but I know it when I hear it. I think of it as a "natural" level, even though it is much...

    Just for fun...

It has now been three weeks. Instead ofbecoming bored with them, I love them more every day. They passed an A/B test with my Def Techs with flying colors. They are starting to look like candidates for my "final" speakers. (Oh, and the bass is growing on me, too. I no longer think I need a sub.)

    Music Blu-ray coming!

What is the point of introducing yet another "high definition" music format, especially since none of the others ever caught on?

    GAS Prices

It is scary to see that the post that started this thread was complaining about $1.80/gal. Where I live, it is now $3.75 and rising!

    RIP Harvey Korman

A funny, funny man. He will be sorely missed.

Old CD players sounded like crap?

I bought a Sony Discman right when they first came out (around 1982), and it sounded fantastic. It instantly and permanently rendered my vinyl collection obsolete.

    Disillusioned with "high end".

I have never been married, but I also don't make a very good salary. A lot of the extra cash I do have goes into books, CDs, and DVDs.
