My Alesis Monitor Ones were the final piece in my 2.0 puzzle. Now when I listen to my system, I feel no need for anything more, ever. Since then, I have auditioned several much more expensive systems (one over 50K), and been decidedly underwhelmed. Has anyone else lost the "upgrade bug".

Speakers have come a long, long way since 1978. I think you will be amazed by how much better new ones will sound (even quite affordable new ones, if you stick to makes/models recommended here.)

If accuracy is your thing, it is hard to get more accurate than studio monitors in a nearfield setup. That is what I am using now (Alesis Monitor Ones). and I am certain that I hear exactly what is on my CDs, no more and no less.

If I were a fan of mainstream pop/rock music, that might be true in a lot of cases. The music I mainly prefer (jazz, new age, world music, etc.) not only sounds fantastic on CD, but even better than in the past.

CD was such an immense step up in sound quality from vinyl that I can't imagine ever wanting a turntable again. The only thing I miss is the large sleeves, which had more room for art.
