Received my Carnegie CSB1's today, a lot of people wanted to know what I thought...

I got mine today finish is great. I immediately pulled off the front drivers and pushed back the insulation. Not sure if there is a science to this or not. I just pushed it to the lower back and little up in the corners by the tweeters. I believe I have a few inches or more of clearance behind the drivers. I think they look amazing. I did not realize the fronts sloped back but I like the style.

I can unfortunately not listen. My amp did not arrive today as it was supposed to. I plan to call Amazon about that. I paid an additional $7 for faster shipping at it should have been here today.

I would have to go to best buy and "borrow" an amplifier for a couple days, lol... I am very impatient... I like the sloping fronts too, it just gives them a different look, the finish is fantastic and matches my svs subs perfectly, like they wre made for each other...

Any suggestions on how those terminals that came with these work? I have some 16 gauge speaker cable that I am trying to figure out how to attach. Do I jus crimp the end down on the wire. Seems like a bad system.....

Banana plugs will work. That's what most of us seem to be using. Danny recommends using the ones he sends with the speakers though.

My setup

So guy's here's how I have mine set up.


The speakers are about 2' from the wall and about 6' apart from each other. Sounds pretty good.




Here's what worries me, the left speaker is only about 1' away from the left wall and one of my subs is on this same wall. The left speaker is firing right at it but at least the speaker is about 6" higher than the top of the sub.



Do you guys think this is going to be an issue?

I am up and running with the little SMSL amp I got. I have to say they sound very good. Impressive for only 20 watts and no subs and just output from my iPod. Once get I get moved into my new house they will be great with my Onkyo 805 powering them and a pair of subs
helping.

I wouldn't expect the sub to have any effect, but if you can and want to, sliding it towards the chair another 6 inches couldn't hurt. I would say side wall distance would be a much larger factor since one is pretty close to the side wall and one is much further. In order to make it more even you could need some treatments against the wall. A much more practical idea would be to toe them in a touch more so the main LP is maybe 15 degrees or less off axis, putting the side wall, much further off axis. You could even go as far as to get them to cross in front of the LP to see how that sounds, but again, try no to put the main LP more than 15-20 degrees off axis.

However, if it sounds good, then leave it. If you want to experiment, the suggestions may or may not make any difference whatsoever to your ears.

Great, I'm glad you like it. They're my go to amp for anything under 100 watts. I'd really like to try their dual torroidal version they make now, although it's double the price of the T-amp version of about the same power. I doubt they'll sound any different and I'm guessing they're just trying to hit the "audiophile" market a little harder.

Well, if it sounds good then it isn't a problem!

If you look around a lot, you will see plenty of setups that aren't quite ideal, but still sound really good. The name of the game is to use the space you have, compromise when needed, and minimize the ill-effects of interactions, etc.

Sometimes that's just the reality unless you have a luxury of a dedicated room.

Personally, I would at least take the item off the top of the sub if it were me. Low hanging fruit to optimize what you have to work with.

Pulled the drivers this morning and redid the polyfill. Had to pull a tiny bit out of each one to achieve what Danny send in his pics. Note of caution - on one of the drivers, the connector was bent at 90degrees and instantly snapped off when I pulled the driver. I have connectors so I was able to repair it easily. Calibrating now. 1st run set them to small and 120Hz. Reset to 80hz and running again.

2nd run it set mains to large, Center to small 100Hz and sub at 175Hz? WTH?

I will try and send some tomorrow. Nothing impressive as I mentioned I am using the center channel box and bookshelves box as my temp speaker stands. We are heading for some drinks and food for the day. I will be more fun tonight after a few beers and a full belly to play with them.

Well my uncle came over this morning for breakfast, I showed him the carnegie/svs 2.2 and he played a few songs off his phone, he is now ordering a setup for himself tomorrow morning, minus the electronics since he has an integrated amp and dock he uses...
His review was- "The high end is as pure as anything under $5K, the mids are all there but definitely the soft point of the speaker while still as good as anything he has heard for under a thousand dollars, the lows with out the subs are impressive but the svs subs are amazing, it melts together like olive oil and garlic {he's Italalian, lol}"... Then I told him the speakers and subs were only around $1600 shipped, he couldn't believe it... In all fairness he was looking for a little system for his "treadmill" room, and he is only going to get 1 sub, he wasnt going to get a sub at all but them I played it with a single on and he liked it... so for around $1000 2.1 in piano isn't too bad...

I am in my front parlor listening to my other 2.2 system rite now, and its obviously a stronger sound {the msrp of the towers was $2000 and the subs were $2100 each} but the csb1's arent far behind them, I just have grown to love these evo2-40's...

I agree It's so much better looking in person. It reminds me of the old Marantz Gold color receivers and tiny. I was surprise to see a light on the volume dial too. Can't wait for the pics. I should be able to hook it up next weekend when I get everything I need.
