Hey Life, how did the capacitance adapters Mark made for you work out with the sibilance issue? I'm sure it really helped. ;)
ahblaza/TLSguy so I started listening to various LP's and some have the shhhh and tsss(Paul McCartney is bad with those. Check out The Beatles "Till There Was You" and get back to me), but some are not as bad. I think these were recorded that way and not the Onkyo's fault. I also listened to some MP3's/Flac on my Cowon iaudio X5/X7 and I heard it on there too. Also the carts are new, so they need break in. I got the AT120 and AT112 both incredible carts on my Technics L Q300(got on ebay recently for $50 in mint condition and works great. It's fully automatic too.:)) P-mount. The 112 really surprised me might be even better than the 120. I want to try the AT440 and Nagaoka MP-100(said to be great with pop/jazz) carts as well. Tracy Chapman Debut/Barry White - Greatest Hits/Eagles - Desperado are the best one SQ wise on LP that I have.
What your top favs on Vinyl?

I really think it is the recordings but hearing it on Flacs is a little confusing:confused: You will not regret the 440 purchase, great little tracker and very musical.

I have a Shure M97, a couple of Denon DL's 110 & 160 and AT 440MLa, they all have their own strengths and weakness's, the 440 is my workhorse, it gets the most playing time, most complaints out of the box were a bit forward and bright, after about 15 hours it really started to sing, and it's the best tracker with minimal force, also best match with my Jelco ST-250 arm. I still like the Shure at $69 paid. The 440 was going for $99-129 but has really jumped in the last year or so.
Cheers Jeff

Nice carts! Yeah I'm waiting to see If they go down in price. Crazy pricing everywhere on the 440. $129 just for the needle. Yeah I know there are more expensive, but this cart was alot less.

Yeah that's too bad, I saw that $129 for replacement stylus  All it takes Life are some good reviews especially on you tube and all of a sudden a bargain gets out of hand, it's still worth $159 if you can find it. :)

I don't know why stylus are more expensive to pickup then a cartridge. As an example, I have an Ortofom OM10 and I wanted to upgrade the stylus with am OM40 which filts the OM10 cartridge. I ended up with an Ortofon 2M Red which has a better stylus again than the OM40 for less money than the OM40 stylus. I don't get it.

I really believe it is intended for you to buy a new cartridge, I could not justify spending more for part of the original package.

Good picks, I just got a few new ones myself, it's also been a long time since I bought new, tomorrow will be cleaning day and then have a listen. I picked up Guns and Roses: Appetite For Destruction from Back to Black 180 gram, never purchased anything from B to B pressings. Mercury Rev Deserters Songs. The Allman Brothers Band at Fillmore East, also Back to Black 180g, and a mint 1971 Led Zeppelin IV that I had to replace because I ruined my original copy. I guess I'm really showing my age here and my preference for rock n roll. I do like classical and jazz as well, but most of that material is on CD. Enjoy your new tunes my man. ;)

Attached here is a section print out from a June 1979 Stereo Review article on Record Playback, org. written by George Alexandrovich.

It makes two significant points as to how record wear is NOT an issue ( of course as long as your turntable and cartridge are properly set up) and how vinyl is tougher than many may think.

Anti-vinyl types speak out of their arse on this topic.
