I think the "DefTech Defender" Label falls off automatically after I've auditioned 20+ speakers.:D

Definition of "DefTech Defender" - a DefTech fanboy and owner of DefTech speakers who has not auditioned 20 or more different speakers. This label shall be removed as soon as he owns 3 or more world class speakers, one of which must be a Dennis Murphy design.:D
If the DM Phil's is a lot better than the DT's of the PAST, you better change your Avatar! That is going to be a BIG LIFT!! :D

I haven't been around here much. What happened to all your Def Techs? You owned more than anyone I've ever known.
So how do those PSB's from Canada compare overall to the Def. Tech's? We have never heard a PSB but only heard good things about them.

Come on man! I at least still own my PSB B1's....only because they haven't sold yet..:D

I bought my DefTech SM 450's blind. No audition. And they are by far the best speakers I have owned.

So yeah, you can still be called DefTech Defender since it was you that forced me to buy them...:D:D
Excellent, you bought the SM450's blind, but we ended up with the SuperTowers BP7001SC's and have not looked back -- I love the DT Signature of sound. :D

This thread has become a Def. Tech. thread -- how can that be (are they that great -- in our EARS the BP's are?), where are the Focal's, B&W's, Paradigm, PSB, Salk, Klipsch, Phil Fanboys?

It took about 2 minutes of auditioning my Def Techs and I was sold. As good as they are for music, I think these speakers are absolutely perfect for HT use.
Same here, love them for Music (.flac and .wav) uncompressed files, and HT is super nice as well, one full room of sound with a Large Soundstage!

I've never been good at describing how a speaker sounds. The Stratus Golds are superb for music. Lots of bass (but obviously cannot compare to DefTechs in that area). I think they have a very neutral sound. My BP7001SCs are much brighter than the Stratus Golds and on occasion, I find the Def Techs can be a bit fatiguing whereas that never seems to be the case with the Stratus Golds. It would be tough if I had to pick between the two for music only and I might actually slightly give the edge to the PSBs. I have the Stratus Silvers in my upstairs HT and for music or HT use, there is no question the Def Techs would win between those two.

Back in the day, bang for your buck, I think the Stratus Golds were very tough to beat. I think I can probably say the same for the Def Techs.

Did they sound fatiguing?

Did you have to turn them down because your ears hurt
Nope and Nope. Liked the the sound, really no issues at all...

We just had a New Years party at my house. A lot of family were here. Truly fun, fun, fun.

So I did a little so-called experiment. Very little. I played the instrumental song "Marriage D'Amour" via the Salon2 and seriously cranked up the volume so that it could be heard loud and clear in the formal living room, which is between my HT room and the family room, where the P362 are.

Everyone's jaw dropped. They acted as if they had never heard anything more beautiful.

When the song ended. I paused it. Then played it again via the P362 and cranked up the volume. Everyone immediately said, "No, played it again on the first speakers!":D

I guess the moral of the story is that even common folks can actually appreciate a great set of speakers.:D

Not that the P362 were bad. They were just compared to the Salon2!

I had the same thing happen at my small New Years party. Everybody was mesmerized by Hugh Laury’s PBS show and song after song on the TV cable Light Classical channel on the Philharmonic 2s. They all sounded so much like live music.

you have just accomplished the best speaker test without requiring any fancy test equipment or software. I applaud your use of a bunch of party wasted people as your A/B subjects. Bravo

KEF Reference

ADTG -- so the KEF's slept through the Full Party, and never got any Voltage at all. The KEF's are just waiting for your Next Party to show the Salon's who is Boss, and the KEF's are crying that you turned on the P362's. :D:eek:

DPS,

I edited your post a little - haha. The answer to your question is the Salk and Phil "fanboys" are too busy enjoying their amazing speakers rather than posting on the forums about which ones might be better (like you).:D Do I sense some buyers remorse from you? Why else would you be inquiring about other speakers compared to your Def Tech's? Go enjoy what you have, man! Life is too short.

P.S. You were a Klipsch fanboy less than a month ago dude, don't forget. ;) Our systems always sound amazing until we hear something better; the trick is to buy something than doesn't get bested within that respective price range. Fortunately, I've done that. I've had my Salk's for 3 and a half years, and I've heard probably over 100 speakers since then. Yeah, I still own my Salk's. ;):D

I know it's embarrassing, but our families mostly don't drink all that much.

The hardest liquor was 7.5% alcohol content, and there were only 2 bottles.

We mostly drink soft drinks.:D

BTW I'm playing Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 right now on my Salon2, and it's like I'm in the concert hall.;)

No, the KEFs were on for the movies.:D

Sorry to say that the Orion slept through the party.:D

I don't know why, but the only time I listen to the Orion is when I'm all by myself in the house.

The P362 were on big time for karaoke.:D

Hey, don't copy my Postings... shame on you as all my Postings are Copyrighted! :D That is Copyright Infringement, enforceable by law.

Buyers remorse NO WAY, not with 4 - 6.5" drivers per enclosure vs. a couple 5" drivers, OH BTW Dual 1" Tweets vs. one little tweeter, oh did I forget to put in the 10"/1500W Subwoofer also... ah, and 120# of Mighty Mass compared to 49#'s for the ST's. I guess the ST's are OK if you stay under 95dB SPL, has the same drivers as my SONY BoomBox Elite Edition which has dual 5" cones and one tweeter per box. :D

Am still a KLIPSCH Fanboy -- they DO ROCK like the Def. Techs. do.

Sounds like you need to spend some money there, and upgrade your ST's, as there are a lot of speakers that will fully out perform them, but you will have to spend more than $2K per Pair (more like $4K or Greater) -- You would need to double down or put out some serious cash for the Blades or Salon 2's -- or you could always buy up into some Def. Tech. BP7XXXSC SuperTowers. :D

What channel is Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 20 on, [LOL]. ;) Are you pushing all those mighty bits of .flac around there? I thought you were going to trade in those Salon 2's for a couple of BLADES? :):D

I don't need to spend anything; I'm very happy with my speakers even though I've heard 100+ since purchasing them. Perhaps you missed my point. And my SongTower's easily outperform the DefTech's to my ears, so no thanks to the BP7 series. To each their own.

FYI, my SongTower's play well over 100dB in my room without distortion/compression, and when crossed over to my dual TC2000 15" DIY subwoofers...well, they'll destroy your Def Tech's. :D

I am glad that I do not have to deal with the compromises that exist with your HT room!

Well, your forum name does have "DefTech" in it. :D
Your still pretty smart there ADTG, and last time I looked you had more than a couple little 5" cone drivers in each front tower!! -- you know Sound Quality, ADTG. :D

Heck even my KLIPSCH have a couple 8" Drivers!
