What about using the woofers in his band pass box? Which would be better there?
Avoid at all costs. Bandpass enclosures are very tricky to get right especially for a novice. I highly discourage this.

It just needed to be touched-on, since the OP mentioned it.

After I found the $69 vented sub box, I figured he couldn't go wrong. Under $250 for everything. Where was the internet back when I was blowing money on car audio?

Best thing to do is slap those Dual subs on Craigslist with the picture listed in this thread. Off-set the price of this set-up.

The enclosure determines whether or not one will get the most from the sub. I would highly recommend a custom enclosure for these woofers to get the most performance from them. That enclosure you recommended is not sufficient for those subs. I am sure it is tuned way too high for the JBL GTOs considering it is only 3.6ft^3 net volume for two subs and does not list tuning or vent sizes.

The JBL GTO as I recommended needs 3.5ft^3 vented enclosure per sub tuned to 23hz with at least 35in^2 of vent area. This will extract maximum performance from the subwoofer.

If one is going to "cheap out" here do it with a sealed enclosure at 1.7ft^3 per sub.

You are not reading my post. Each 12" sub needs 3.5ft^3 of air. 7.0ft^3 net volume total for two subs. He has the space. That enclosure will not work.
That is one huge box. He did say he wanted to use the whole space. You certainly know more than I do about sub boxes for sure. I just usually go with what the manufacturer recommends for a sealed enclosure for myself.

It does seem he wants it to hit as hard, and get as loud as possible. I hope he understands that your recommendation is one of a custom sub builder, and mathematically calculated.;)

I say you do it right or be happy with sub par performance. Why spend the money if one will not get the most from a product right?

ok.. wellll...

my dads a carpenter.. and he made me a box a few years ago but it was small and just a sealed enclosure.. all of this different demensions and stuff is confusing the hell out of me! lol so guys.. i do want the JBLs that zumbo posted.. and i was planning on having my dad build me a box.. but im pretty sure he wouldnt be able to vent it.. thats why i wanted to make a sealed box.. so should i buy the one zumbo is suggesting for $70 or should i just make a sealed enclosure.. you both are right. i want it to hit as hard as possible and also be up to max performance. so what should i do? also if i get these jbls i will need the 4g kit i kno that.. but what else will i need? anything? also if i get all this will it still be at 4ohms then right? so it will only be at the 475w that the amp pumps out at 4ohms? im a little confused bcuz we have ben going back and forth sorry.. lol.. so if it still pumps out the 475w will it make a huge difference for all the money im spending?
thanks

ahh

so guys can you eachh put one post that will explain what the best thing i should do in each of your perspectives is? i understand i need the jbls in the post and the 4g kit probably bought seperately like zumbo suggested.. im also buying a fan cooler i saw on darvex bcuz i thought it looked cool..

THIS IS ALOT SO YOU MITE WANT TO OPEN 2 WINDOWS SO YOU CAN MAKE SURE YOU RESPOND TO ALL THE QUESTIONS.. IM SRY THERES KINDA A LOT BUT YOU GUYS ARE GOOD AND I ALREADY KNOW AFTER THIS ILL HAVE PROLLY THE BEST SYSTEM AROUND SO PLEASE DONT GIVE UP ON ME YET GUYS.. haha

ok so now these are my questions....

1. which box will hit the hardest? (my dad said he most likely could build the vented box you suggestd as long as you could simplify the demensions that you gave me earlier annunaki.. bcuz my dads an old man and was a little confused by the complicated demensions in the previous post yu put up. so if you can simplify it i would really appreciate it. but if a sealed box will make them hit harder or the same then that would be a lot easierr for us to make then a vented one.. so if you think so then let me no those demensions as well please) also what do you mean by tune it to 23hz?

2. when this is all set up how many watts will they be pumping out? (im not sure what im gunna do i mite do like zumbo suggested and sell the other duals i have but im not sure yet so let me know the watts for both boxes and also the watts for just the jbls)

3. if i do decide to keep my other box and wire them all to the amp, how exactly would i go about doing that? do i need to connect the two boxes together? or just both boxes to the amp? if you look at the pic i posted with my set up then you could probably explain better how to set it up.. do i put both of them facing eachother? or one facing the back door and one facing my front to seats or what?

4. and if i do what i said in 3 how many watts will my speakers be pumping out? will the amp then go to 1ohm? and pump out 1000w? bcuz if thats the case and the 2 boxes sound ok together then i will just keep both. bcuz i do want it to hit as hard as possible so if i could get it at 1ohm i would defidently be satisfied with the whole set up then.. and how exactly would i set them up? thats what confuses me..

5. is there anything that im missing or needing to buy that i havent put in this post?? or any other suggestions along with this??

PLEASE i need thee answers in laymens terms or whatever the word is lol.. i need to have these steps as simplified for me as possible please.

you guys have really helped so much so far please i promise im just about done with all my questions finallyy... sorry, thanks guys
L

The JBL sub seems to be the best fit in this application. It requires a smaller enclosure in sealed or vented than the CDT and provides similar or better performance.

A proper vented enclosure will require about 3.5ft^3 vented tuned to 23hz for each sub. This will require a slot vent of 2.5"H x 14.0"W x 45.75"L to keep vent velocity below 17m/s.

Two of these with 600-700 watts rms each in one of these enclosures would be impressively loud in your vehicle.

If you wanted to go sealed, 1.7ft^3 will work for each driver with an F3 of 43hz. The vented enclosure will offer over +7db more output at 30hz and +10.3db at 25hz however!

In other words, if you want it loud go vented as listed above.

hey check out the post above this, i wasnt sure if you would get a notification about the post or not thanks

please simplify everything i need to know for vented and im pretty sure i can have it done within a week or 2.. what do you mean by tuning it to be 23hz? i dont get that.. and i will pm each of you the set up after im done as well... and do i have to put the carpet on it? i know it will look better obviously but does it have anything to do with performance? bcuz i will get it done regardless im just asking. thanks L

Two 4 ohm subs will result in a 2 ohm load on your amplifier which will provide the proper output for both subs.

what about if i put all 4 subs together? also i need the demensions for a box that holds 2 of those jbls simplified for me.
thank you

Get me your maximum dimensions allowed for Width (between your wheel wells in the vehicle) Depth & Height. I will get you some dimensions on how to build the vented enclosure. I only gave the net volume, the tuning frequency and the vent dimensions earlier.

Also I would not recommend running your old subs with this setup. You will be running around 700-750 watts rms at 2 ohm (assuming your amplifier really delivers) but wattage really matters not. What matters is moving as much air as possible if you want it to "hit hard". The enclosure I recommended will move a significant amount of fair in your vehicle.

Carpeting the enclosure is not a requirement, though as you stated it will look better. You could also paint the enclosure? Neither will affect performance. I would recommend that you do secure the enclosure in the vehicle when completed though.

Definitely do NOT try to run both sets just to see how it sounds.

Sell the Duals.

As mentioned, you will be running 2ohm with the new subs. Very simple connection. Each sub will have 1(+), and 1(-). Connect each to the (+) and (-) of the amp. If you want to use less wire, connect the (+) and (-) of each sub inside the box. You could install a binding post in the box.

According to your initial post, you will be running 750W@2ohm.

You must install 4AWG wire. 8AWG is not enough.

Since you already have a cap installed, a larger one would be a good idea.
