I'm sick of the snow!

New England is getting back to a typical winter pattern, like we had 30+ years ago. I remember -40°F and snow drifts up to the 2nd floor windows as recently as the 1960s. It's only from 1980 onward that winters have been mild.
Could be. I remember building snow forts as early as October and the winter usually eased up by March, but it was a long time ago so I could be remembering incorrectly. These days, winter doesn't really start until December and sometimes snow shows up in April. It seems we hardly have a fall and spring anymore.

Another 16-21 inches expected by Wednesday in Boston. I have no idea where it'll all fit.

We got snow on top of ice down here. It's crazy. My car is sliding at 10mph. it was just 80 a couple of days ago.

I'm in the midwest "blizzard" or as one local radio station is calling it "snow-nami" like tsunami. A good opportunity to really use the new snow blower on the new lawn tractor. I've used it, but 2-3 inches at a crack really isn't a test.

So I go out and on my second pass this morning, I shear a bolt on the 2nd stage that throws the snow. Argh!! Ok, glad I didn't sell the old on yet. See, being lazy is a good thing!

On the other hand, I live in the Midwest. Snow is expected! It's no big deal. Heck, Christmas 2009 had me holed up for 3 days in rural North Dakota waiting out a blizzard. So this is nothing tough.

Stay warm! Use the weather as an excuse to stay inside and listen or watch our expensive hobby!

:D

Or to safely consume mass quantities since many will not be going to work tomorrow.

we are getting pounded pretty good right now. there is a good bit of snow.
but it is not measurable, and not the issue. as the 60mph winds are blowing it around. and making it difficult out there.
those winds sound like a jet plane flying overhead.

I take it...this is what is coming our way. We haven't had any significant snowfall this winter...accumulative yes, but nothing major. As of this minute...no snow, the morning commute by all accounts should be a nightmare...:(

Well I arrived at work without incident...I allowed myself some extra time by leaving early. The forecaster's have already scaled back their predictions...my guess it's better to error on the side of caution rather then suprise......lol. Now off to work so I can finish and hopfully get outta here earily....:).

You want the 16" we just got in the last 30 hours? Milwaukee is basically closed.

They where talking about 30-40 cm yesterday...it scared so many people into staying at home that driving was a breeze this morning. It's still coming down around here but now they're calling for about 15-20 cm. Its funny our school district never seem to close but they always cancel bus services for the day. As a kid I remember walking to school regardless of the weather outside because school never closed! Nowadays they are either driven or picked up by a school bus....

We were predicted to get up to 18" today. Got up in the morning and called our work's 'weather hot line' to find out that were were open. Got dressed and called again. Still open. Hit the road and the roads were empty. Called the hot line again and it still said we were open. Drove 40 miles through the snow and ice to find a closed building.
Not much snow so far. Maybe 4 inches. Now we're just getting ice and freezing rain.

I wish, I wish, I wish we were getting some of that snow. I could really use some fresh powder to board on.

That would piss me off too. My wife's work didn't "close" even after a civil disaster was declared and everyone told to stay home. Not that people could get there. Then around 11 this morning, an announcement came that 2nd and 3rd shifts were closed. So what about the first shift during the blizzard? They really dropped the ball on this storm.

Me, I knew I wasn't going in to work today. Not with the interstate in SE Wisconsin closed. I did get the driveway cleared and the front walk. Retrieved my US flag which had been on pole hanging from a pillar on my front porch. The wind took the flag and pole together right out of the holder and put it in a tree. In the 4 years I have been flying a flag that way, this was a first.

It's deep in spots in the yard so the dog is whizzing on the driveway. I had to do the last drift blocking the front door by hand since it was twice as tall as the snowblower. Still blowing pretty good but we could get out if we needed to. But no need till work tomorrow.

Stay warm!

We got dumped on in about '67- must have been 100' deep and we had to borrow out of the house, just so we could go outside to play.

No, it was about the same as this time and we suited up and went outside all day. Frozen feet and hands? Dam right! Got a soaker in the creek? You bet. We have a 4' railing over the creek, set in the concrete (they buried corrogated steel culvert so they could pave a two lane road over it and then poured concrete at the ends). That day we would climb onto the snowbank and stand on the railing before jumping into the snow at the bottom. I'm sure we would have had out butts handed to us if our parents knew about this but we had a blast.
