I'm sick of the snow!

Hey, in the SW Indiana/Western Kentucky area there has not been an over abundance of snow mind you. But, good Lord it sure has been colder than usual. It seemed like the entire month of December felt like January to me. As such, I may not be sick of the cold, but I am more than ready for things to warm up. Maybe we will have an early Spring this year as I am sure praying for it. ;):);)

Cheers,

Phil

I was in San Diego once, while I was in our navy. I left a lot cash in several of their fine drinking establishments. Feel free to come up and reciprocate!:D

I love snow - I hate sloppy slush. That's what we get around here, for the most part. We can get some massive snow dumps, but they're few and far between. That's what happens when you stick out in the ocean, near the Gulf Stream, like Nova Scotia does. It "moderates" the climate, i.e. makes it topsy turvy. Lotsa foggy days in summer, lotsa sleet, freezing rain and slush in winter. The freeze/thaw cycles make our roads look like the Western Front in 1917. I'd prefer a mountain of snow to that. There - I'm done. I feel better now.
I too hate the slush. We got about a foot and half of snow and then it rained hard for a couple of hours. it was miserable driving/sliding through that crap.

I would love to go to your drinking establishments. I'm always down for a good pub. Maybe one of these days ;)

-15°C, HA! We laugh at temperatures like that. HA!

We have had -28°F air temperature with -83°F wind chill. Someone stole my car battery that time. At least they didn't cut the cables.
If you want to cherry pick temperatures, the lowest temperature recorded in Milwaukee is -26°F, while the lowest recorded in Calgary is -49°F. :p (From Wikipedia). My sister lived in Fort McMurray ( a few hundred miles north of Calgary) for many years. During their cold snaps, car tires would develop flat spots overnight where they contacted the ground. Makes for a bumpy ride....

I've talked to people from the prairies, where it is much colder than here during winter, complain about the cold out here when they visit. It's because the air is so damp, even moderately cold temperatures cut like a knife.

It's supposed to start snowing heavily this afternoon, with wind up to 80km/h. I'm expecting a fun drive home from work today .

I remember square tires on my Dad's 1 ton truck. Depending on teh temp, it took 5 or 6 K to round up that flat spot. What a rough ride that was. :)

The East coast are bing hammered hard this winter. I haven't seen a winter like that in about 30 years. I remember my last year at UNB when we received 3 snow storms in a 2 week span each system dumping almost 50cm. We had an extended Spring break that year. :p

Yup!

Actually, we've had hardly any snow so far. Lotsa wind storms though! Most of our precipitation has been the liquid kind. That's supposed to change this evening.

I love our forecasters. They said we would get a dusting to 3" by 7 tonight. Well we've got 10 already and no sign of stopping. I should be at the mountain.

We had 4-6 inches on the ground then got hit with 38 inches in 24 hours... Not only that, it's cold. It's very, very cold. I'm ready for spring already.
I feel for you. We only had 4 days of it here in Atlanta, about 5-6 inches. It's been nice, but we're not use to it. The real problem here is, there is a lot of ice, because it melts and refreezes, being as far south as we are. But we only got a TASTE of it. Hopefully nothing like that will hit here, that you speak of. But I do know a little about how you feel. I was already getting cabin fever after only two days of being stuck in the house.

Well, it wasn't clear, but I made it home. My normal commute time is about 25 minutes. It took 70 minutes yesterday. Even though I have snow tires and some sandbags in the box, I don't get a lot of traction when the road gets snow and ice covered. There were a couple of hills I wasn't sure I'd make all the way up. It was fun.

I thought about getting my tires studded a while ago, but that's as far as that idea went...

I forgot about the hills  . Here in Ottawa, everything is flat so normal snow tires do the trick.

Can you get chains for your tires? I wonder how they work compared to studs.

I think chains would be a royal PITA - I'm not even sure they're legal on paved roads, as I can't recall the last time I saw a vehicle using chains. They were pretty common when I was a kid, but we had unpaved roads. I really should have them studded....someday...

Whenever I drive to B.C. I alway see signs that say "Use chains in wintertime"

Yea...but there's a big diference in elevation drivng thru the Rockies and driving thru the hilss of Nova Scotia. A cloud blowing across the rockies could cause severe driving conditions in mere seconds. ;)
