Which SVS model was it you heard and was it it the same room as the Perlisten sub(s)?

I've owned them. I had a pair of their SB16-Ultras. Great for what they are. I heard the Perlistens at Axpona and they sounded like you'd expect for nearly 8x the price. Pretty incredible really. If I trusted Social Security, I'd toss the TSP/401K at what was in that room: S7t Black Editions with D8is.

FWIW, when replacing subs in a stereo rig similar to the OP's, it was an SVS that just didn't work. I can't be absolutely sure, but I suspect it was the delay/latency from the dsp. Like the OP, I have no means to compensate upstream, and no placement flexibility. A sub without dsp worked much better, per both measurements and the ear test.

That's not a criticism of SVS, just that they may not be the most appropriate choice to integrate with an old school system that lacks upstream bass management.

Apologies for the late response.

We were moving our daughter back for her JR. college year. After seeing this, I felt compelled to respond.

I can only answer your question by saying I listen to such a wide variety of music that there is no particular style that stands out.

I have found excellent "Q-Sound" recordings from Madonna and Sting plus many others in that interesting recording format.

I have Telarc CDs with different classic pieces that are extremely high quality recordings.

I am very interested in TLS' pipe organ music. I'd like to hear it on his system and my own.

I just received the 40th Addition of SuperTramps' Crime Of The Century.

The music is extremely well recorded.

The bonus of this CD is it comes with a 1975 Hammersmith Odeon live concert from March 19th of that year.

I'm always open for recommendations when it comes to very well recorded music.
If you have something you love that is very well recoded, I'm all ears.

BTW,

I don't find Steely Dans' Aja or Pink Floyd's Dark Side to be the "best recored" albums of all time.

Those two are brought up very often, and they sound great, but there are IMO better recordings, or at least better sounding albums on my system.

Lately I've been into Sona Jorarteh who is of Gambian decent. She has some well recorded stuff.

I also love heavy rock/metal.
