Seriously, I have no life.
Actually, the insurance company hegemony over healthcare still exists. In case you haven't noticed, the closer we got to healthcare reform, the higher health insurance stocks went. This bill is a boon to private insurance. The government taking over 1/6th of the economy is a nice republican talking point: it's just not based in the facts.
Would you sue another driver if they hit your car when you were driving it and seriously messed you up? What about if they badly injured or killed someone in your family? You'd sue, right?

The only good I see coming of this monstrosity of a bill is that it will set the democrat party back 50 years come this november and in 2012. I don't think it will pass constitutional muster and and think a vast majority of the States will just ignore it anyway. It will, at the very least, be very interesting the few years.

Wait....what health care bill? What country do you all live in? I know it's not Ethiopia since you wouldn't have internet either. I find it hard to believe a country that's not third world, wouldn't have universal health care for all.

:)

It's a noble idea, just horrible execution on part of our politicans. Oh, and it happens to violate the U.S constitution....no big deal right?
It'll be interesting to see how many of the Attorneys General who said they would sue, actually have the balls to go through with it. I watched some coverage yesterday and they said 16 AGs were planning to file suits as soon as the ink was dry. Why they need to wait that long, i don't know.

You can't begin litigation until the law is on the books. That doesn't and won't happen for a while. State AGs, last count I heard was 32 now, can't challenge a law until it exists, until Obama signs it into law.

EDIT... I just think the video is funny... no offense meant btw

Sure. And if he didn't have insurance which he is forced to buy, I'd get nothing.

Unless you have un-insured/under-insured driver coverage.

If you sue, you'll basically own the other person because of the judgment if they're found to be negligent. They can lost just about everything. Same would happen if you were in their position.

I was having a conversation about insurance and what a scam it is with a friend one night and at some point I said, "Now watch, I'll walk outside and my car will be gone". I didn't think it was so funny when I walked outside and my car was gone.

You can afford to lose your car and not be reimbursed for it? I can't. My homeowner's insurance covers the contents but I won't drive without liability coverage.

One side is betting that we will have an accident and the other is betting that we won't.

No.

The bill was a passage of more governmental control and/or the framework for it. They wanted it passed so badly solely for that reason, not what was actually in it.

If they were really trying to 'overhaul' health care they would have done something to control costs. This will drive costs up rather than control them. Common sense is in very short supply in Washington.

I can't wait to pay $ so the slob down the street who eats McDonalds 5x a week and wonders why he is overweight and has heart problems can visit the doctor every week.

You know where they are heading next now so some of them can stay in office right? You guessed it, amnesty for the 20-30 million illegal immigrants.

If they were willing to force this through at the behest of over 65% of the population, there is no doubts they will try to get that done just prior to November. If not November 2010 then surely prior to November 2012 to try to swing the presidential election.

you're already doing that though, right? Via increased insurance premiums?

I'm not offended, but I'm disheartened a bit. When was the last time there was an educational cartoon or other child oriented teaching tool like that one to help young students learn how government works. The key to making sure that generations that follow our own is that they begin to learn about these things as soon as they can. The longer you wait to introduce these concepts the less likely a student will be interested or care about them. If you reach high school and you keep hearing about the government and economics classes you are going to have to take in your Sophomore or Senior year they will become these looming daunting things that you don't want to face or deal with. By the time they reach those courses they will either do terrible in them, or the good student will make sure they do well, but retention falls tragically short of what it should.

An ignorant citizen is subservient one.

To some degree yes, but so is he. However, if he is deemed "unable to pay" I will still have to pay and he wont.
to a pretty big degree, IMO. I mean, that's how all insurance works. I've never caused a car accident in my life, I haven't broke the deductible on my healthcare in a decade, Dont have any kids, not likely to die anytime in the near future. Yet I pay thousands a year for all that insurance so that people can drive like idiots, go to the doctor constantly, and cr@p out kids like their life depended on it.

Sure, you don't pay for the uninsured fatty to get regular (cheap?) checkups, but you ARE already paying for him to go to the ER when he actually has a heart attack. Which maybe could have been prevented with regular care and medication? Some certainly would be, but I haven't seen any statistics on how much emergency medicine is likely to be prevented by more preventative care.

There's also another thing to consider. I can't remember the number, but I've seen it reported in the news that millions of the uninsured can afford it, they just choose not to. Common sense says that if you can afford insurance and forego it, you're probably pretty healthy. If those people are required to get insurance that is an aspect that will actually reduce insurance premiums (not to say that it's enough to cause a net reduction).
