if you are limited on size and want to modify or even reduce the size of the box. I believe it can be done. Of course you will be sacrificing response if you shrink the size. Or modify the vent. The main thing is to keep the size of the vent as close to the original as possible and to maintain the folding of the vent.

I know there has been many questions on mods. I have even cut the size in half and the response is still great to 25 hz. You loose about 5hz though so be aware of that and the port speed can pick up depending on how you mod.

As always real world vs simulation are different and sticking to the original design is usually the best.

And I always defer to those more experienced. I just find this driver to be very useful and fairly versatile with this type of box.

Can someone please post a pic showing the OC705 installed on the back plate?
I am just a tad confused on how big the oc needs to be and whether it should cover the entire plate etc?

thanks,

Sam

I glued a four inch strip of it wrapped in a towel directly behind the driver.

It should cover the entire brace behind the driver.

The goal is to reduce mechanical noise. So you want to damp the entire brace.

Can anyone recommend some grills, I will have mine recessed, or a link that would show how I can make my own? thanks...have two grandchildren in the house and they have been known to stuff my HSU 3.3 ports. :) One can only imagine what they would do to a naked driver....

8lb mineral wool will work just as well and is way cheaper.

If I had the funds I would by my rock wool and send you some, but money is tight atm.

Well,

First one is done, checking it out now. First impressions are that is has cleaner bass than the HSU 3.3 and not as boomy, it can rumble a room, but I am not convinced that is immeasurably better just yet. FYI, I am using the FMOD, FBQ 2496 and an EP2500 in bridged mode for now.

First manual readings with corrected values,

14 72.3
16 75.3
18 81.9
20 78.6
25 76.8
28 76.0
31.5 79.2
40 82.8
45 86.4
50 76.9
56 79.5
63 85.3
71 79.2
80 74.0

Those are pretty good in room numbers. I suggest you eq the sub with REW since you have an FBQ. You probably don't have it cranked enough to tell a huge difference. The cops will be by later tonight.:D An EP2500 can drive 2 of those subs FYI.

You don't need a FBQ with a DCX. The DCX does everything the FBQ does and much more.

You can do at least 8 bands of Eq per output with adjustable "q" from .1-10.0 and nearly anyfrequency you want from 20hz-20Khz. You can also set limiters if needed as well as adjust input/ouput gain settings. It is an extremely flexible crossover too.
