On another tangent, some old sci-fi recommendations...the remastered DVD of The Day the Earth Stood Still (1951, not the recent version), the original flying saucer movie; a sort-of remake, the long director's cut of The Abyss, in which the aliens are on the bottom of the ocean and another seminal FX film, the remastered version of The Forbidden Planet.
If that works, head for the bottom of the heap and get one of the most lovable, worst movies ever made, Ed Wood's "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and it's excellent more recent tongue-in-cheek biopic twin, "Ed Wood", the making-of movie starring Johnny Depp as Wood and Martin Landau as the demented, morphine addicted Bela Lugosi.
